fruit bad for fat loss?

is this true?

somebody told me in one of my previous threads that it's ok for me to use fruits to fill myself up if i'm not full from a meal. yet I just read a thread where somebody said that fruits are no good if you want fat loss, except for cranberries, strawberries and a few more.

i don't see why not...i eat a salad for lunch most days, and then an apple afterwards to "fill up on".......it's a sweet carb, that's all.....with vitamins and fiber of course....

lol fruit better not be bad for you i eat it like 5 times a day and even more with veggies man i love that stuff. i have a question myself is it bad if u eat 2 big bowls of special k cereal with fat free milk every other morning? like just the 2 big bowls is that bad just itself?

well fruit is high in the sugar fructose, but that is a good carb and your body accepts it well, now too much of this can overload your body with sugar and turn it into fat so dont eat so much fruit that you cant handle it but also be sure to get your daily servings in. I try to have fruit with everymeal, usually a kiwi or bananna with breakfast an apple as a snack, and some oranges throughout the day.

Drifta is right, the only "bad" thing about fruit is its usually higher in calories than veggies. They're good quality calories though. Fruit can be incorporated nicely into a fat loss eating plan.

alan aragon made the following posts concerning the idea of avoiding fruit

avoiding fruit is a bad idea because:

1) fruits are calorically sparse & nutritionally dense. not mentally dense like folks who tell others to avoid them.
2) fruits are an effective default fiber & water source. you will **** better & function better.
3) fruits have small amounts of fructose per serving (4-7g). this is perfect for preserving liver glycogen & indirectly, skeletal muscle glycogen status. muscle glycogen is better replenished when small amounts of fructose are present in the postW mix.
4) a liver lacking glyco-replenishment = multiple catabolic signalling cascades = compromised gains in skeletal muscle. fructose facilitates "fed state" signals to the brain. too complex to get into right now, but this is a good thing.
5) fruits contain system & recovery-enhancing phytonutrients & antioxidant factors not present in any other food species.
6) there is not a solitary shred of science indicating ill effects on health, body composition, or physical performance as a result of eating fruit. some of the leanest, longest-living populations on the planet earth eat fruit daily.
7) it would take the consumption of a truck bed of fruits to ingest amounts of fructose associated with negative metabolic effects seen in forcefed rats. the funny thing about this is, fruit is one of the rare foods in nature that you can actually fill yourself up with, & still not tip the balance of risk versus benefit.
8) fruit avoidance just plain makes no damn sense whatsoever -- but then again, how many idiotic bodybuilding myths do you know of that do?

shifting through the crap and myths is the hardes't part of health and fitness. for every fact there is 100 myths. alan aragon could be right but ive always read articals saying the fructose in fruit will effect fat loss in a negative way, but very much needed for a healthy lifestyle. this guy could be wrong he provides no studies to support what he is saying about fat loss and fruit, then agen I can say the same about the articals ive read. jonny is refering to me as the one that said fruit is no good for fat loss. at this point it would be nice to see some studies, although Im getting the feeling that ol alan there is right.

oh believe me, alan could provide studies. he's a personal trainer and he also does lectures at universites and for doctors and the fda i believe.

but its gonna come down to personal experience. i lost 6 points off my bodyfat % last year and i was eating fruit and i was drinking milk before bed which ppl say is bad. i'm gonna keep right on doing it. :D

perhaps people believe that the fructose in fruit will spike your insulin levels like any other high Gi carb, and promote fat storage.
In my opinion, fruit is a necessity and should be present in everyone's diet.
If you're freakin out about insulin spikes or you're a carb nazi, then have them pre or post workout, just make sure u get some in there.
Fruit tastes so good and refreshing ... i could never drop it.
mmm..watermelon.

The amount of nutrients you get from fruit greatly outweighs the fact that there is some fructose in it. If your worried about the sugar like stalefish said have them pre or post work out. There are carbs in vegitables also but people still eat those.
