Ok here we go again, I've been on this site for awhile now, The most successful I've ever been in losing weight was when I was on this site, I've gained back all of the weight I initially lost (around 50 lbs :puke:) and I've decided that if I could do it once, by god I can do it again. I'm starting from scratch with a new diary and I feel very motivated to stick with it. So here goes...

How much weight do you want to lose? 60 lbs

What is the timeframe for reaching your target weight? 1 year from today.

How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)? Diet/Excersize

Who or what can support you in reaching your goal? My friends now know me as the formerly athletic guy who got fat..my grandma is a 90 year old irish gal who drinks and smokes all the time and very openly refers to me as "the fat one", Rubbing it in their faces is a pretty motivating concept. My wife will support me as well.

How realistic is your goal? I'm wanting to lose 60 lbs in 12 months, putting me at a goal of 5 lbs per month, I think that's quite realistic.

When will you start? I officially started yesterday, the wife bought a Wii fit for herself and I got on that for awhile, though was planning to start next week, my first "real" workout in this cycle will be this evening.

1. What is your current height and weight?
256 lbs/6'1"

2. If you were at an ideal weight now, what would that weight be?
195lbs

3. At what weight would you like to be at four months from now?
236lbs

4. Why do you want to lose weight?
Health, confidence, want to look good for the wife.

5. Do you want to lose weight for a specific life event such as wedding or reunion? If so, when is that event?
no specific event.

6. What obstacles could get between you and your weight loss goals?
Food, laziness, contentment,

7. Why do you think that you now have a weight problem?
Because I used to be able to maintain a fairly lean body mass with little to no extra "work", I can't do that anymore and it, along with poor eating habits, has snow-balled on me.

8. What lifestyle changes do you think would help you lose weight?
Stop smoking, create a sustainable nutrition and exercise plan.

9. Have you lost weight in the past? If so, what has worked in the past to help you lose weight?
Yes I have, basically just monitoring everything that I put into my body and keeping that in check, couple that along with an exercise regimen and you've got a pretty potent formula for shedding weight.

10. Why do you believe that you did not lose weight or you gained the weight back?
I believe I gained it back because I got comfortable, I need to remind myself that this is a continuing battle, you can give yourself rewards, and you can even go crazy once in awhile, but you can never stop.

11. What, if anything, has not worked for you in the past in helping you to lose weight? Why do you think it did not work?
Sitting on my ass eating cheetos didn't work.

12. Would you try writing down all food and drink consumed for a given period of time?
I've tried it with good results, I will be starting a food diary again.

13. Do you cook at home often? If so, what do you cook?
I love to cook, but I don't do it as often as I'd like, chicken is probably my favorite.

14. How often do you go out to eat? Where do you go?
We eat out ALL the time, we live in a small town with about 5 fast food restaurants, and we hit them all up very frequently.

15. What are your three favorite foods?
Ribeye steak, shrimp ceviche', and cheezeburgers!

16. What are your three favorite restaurants?
eh, they're all local dives that no one outside of central nebraska has heard of. I love bar fare, italian, and mexican food though.

17. What are three things you can do differently when it comes to food?
Eat less, Eat more often, and eat better.

18. If you woke up tomorrow and your body was exactly the way you want it, what would be different? Umm...I'd be short about 60 lbs, having maintained most of my muscle mass throughout that process.

19. Do you eat when you are not hungry?
Sometimes, though not that often.

20. Do you binge eat (large amounts at a time)?
YEP! this is my biggest problemo.

21. Do you hide your food or eat in secret?
No, I'm a glutton in public.

22. Do you eat when you are sad, nervous, or depressed?
not really, I don't get sad, nervous, or depressed often enough to judge that one though.

23. Do you eat as a reward?
absolutely, after a big commission at work, etc..

24. Do you eat while watching TV or using the computer?
We eat dinner in front of the TV most nights, I don't allow any food or drink near my computer.

25. What do you normally eat for a meal?
Normally fast food.

26. What type of snacks do you eat?
Chips mostly, I don't snack alot, just eat too much during actual meals.

27. In terms of exercise, what, if anything, are you currently doing?
Nothing.

28. Where do you go for exercise? A local public gym? School/work gym? Home?
A combination of home and the YMCA.

29. What, if anything, are your three favorite types of exercise?
I like weight lifting, I LOVE basketball, and sometimes I enjoy swimming.

30. What is your daily/weekly/monthly/yearly motivation to move towards your goals?
Not sure how to answer this one, I think once I see progress I will be hooked again, that's how it was the first time, once those first 10 lbs come off you really hit it hard.

31. Do you have rewards for certain goals?
I'll buy new pants, that's a good reward.

Hah! you have some awesome photos in your album and a gorgeous wife :)

Yea she's a hottie :) thanks by the way!

Last night went pretty well actually, I got this new rice cooker for x-mas because I am incapable of making good rice on my own, anyways, I broke that out and made some white steamed rice and then baked some chicken breasts that I had marinating..chopped it all up for a "rice bowl" and it was pretty darn good, plus I have enough left over after the wife and I ate for lunch today...so yesterday's food intake looked a little something like this:

Breakfast - Mcdonald's oatmeal w/o brown sugar (this seems to be a pretty good option for people eating healthy, it's somewhere around 250 calories and is very good sized with a lot of the caloric cost coming from fresh/dried fruits..I highly recommend it.

Lunch - Banana (I wasn't very hungry for some reason, I did take an early lunch though)

snack - blueberry nutri-grain bar

Dinner - steamed white rice with baked chicken breast

After dinner I went to the gym, I did around 8 minutes on the treadmill then worked some chest/back exercises, nothing too crazy cause I knew I'd be sore this morning, which I am :)

After workout snack - one banana and one apple.

Day 1 in the books, time to tackle another one!

Day 2

Day 2 went great! I'm really starting to like this "one day at a time" mentality, I think it will help me a lot. Yesterday I had oatmeal for breakfast, leftover chicken/rice for lunch, and then I made an italian shrimp risotto in the rice cooker which is turning out to be one of my favorite contraptions..after dinner I went to the gym and did 25 minutes worth of intervals on the treadmill, played basketball with some kids for about 20 minutes, and then did about 20 minutes of weight lifting, triceps/biceps...after that I went home and helped the wife study for her CT boards and then we got out the wii fit + for our daily "check in" it says I've lost about 4 lbs in 3 days so that's good I guess, my wife is also beginning to shrink though much more slowly as she's not a very big person. All in all it was a pretty good day, if anyone would like my recipe for the shrimp risotto please let me know, I gauged it at about 350-400 good calories which isn't bad for a full meal at all.

Last night I didn't go to the gym, but ate pretty well all day so I don't think not going yesterday is going to hurt me too badly. My wife was out of town taking her boards so I had the house all to myself and decided to be lazy :) got on the scale this morning for shiggles and weighed 253, so not big losses to report, I've got a wedding this weekend that I'm sure is going to involve drinking and eating, just gonna have to do damage control and not go insane with the eating...might try to get a workout in this afternoon before I leave, not sure though. cheers.

well shit,

Been sicker than a dog since my last post, haven't been going to the gym, haven't been eating hardly at all, damn flu.

thanks day, I'm coming around, feeling a lot better today and back at work, gonna do a light workout this evening. Oatmeal and black coffee for breakfast so far today!

yo dawgs

Finally feeling at about 100%, damn flu kicked my butt the last couple of days, yesterday was pretty good for me although I was still feeling a bit shaky for most of the day, I had MCD oatmeal for breakfast, roasted chicken breast for lunch, and shrimp and rice out of the rice cooker for supper. Then the wife and I went to the gym and did a pretty brutal arm workout, then got on the wii fit afterwards and I had lost another 1.5 lbs since 9 days ago when I got sick. We also signed up for a competition they're having at the YMCA, it's kind of a "biggest loser" type deal, just helps to keep you motivated as you have to meet with a "trainer" each week and go over what you've been doing. Tonight we're going in for a bout of cardio which should be good, I find that I'm able to run alot further and longer when my wife is with me as opposed to being alone, not sure why that is but I'll take it :) We also got new furniture delivered two days ago, that's not important to weight loss other than the fact that a new mattress helps me sleep better..

ok so last night was the "weigh in" of this contest we're doing, ala biggest loser, everything went as expected, got in a little bit of a workout as the wife was on call, had pork chops and red beans and rice for dinner. My freakin back has been killing me from shoveling snow, that's a hell of a workout, lol..

Fatguy, checking in.

So things have been going pretty well, a couple minor slip ups this last weekend as the wife and I went out to see a couple movies, we actually wanted to see "The Fighter" on Friday but ending up going to the wrong theater so we saw the green hornet instead, I didn't think it was very good, that night we had sushi for dinner, I had good tuna sushi, she had salmon and cream cheese sushi, which they call a "Philadelphia Roll", needless to say they're not that great for you, oh well you've got to treat yourself every once in a while. My second official weigh in is this evening and I'm looking forward to it, on my scale this morning I was 247.1, which is little over 7 lbs lost since last week, just gotta stay on this training regimen. I've been doing some maintenance lifting each night and then doing light intervals on the treadmill...by light I mean I walk for two minutes at 3mph, then I run for one minute at 6mph, this goes on for about 40 minutes to an hour and keeps my heart rate at or above 170 bpm for almost that whole time, which is a good thing :)

All for now. :seeya:

officially 10 lbs lost

got on the scale this morning and was at 246.0, ten lbs down the drain, good riddance I hope I never see you again! The wife and I did some pretty hard weight training last night, she's beginning to hate me at the gym, lol...she'll thank me in the end I suspect...in any case, last night went well, tonight we're doing an hours worth of interval training so that should get the sweat going pretty good!

last night's workout

It was awesome, the wife and I did interval training for an hour straight on the treadmill, we did 2 minutes walking at 3mph, and then 1 minute running at 6-7mph, overall went over 4 miles on that stupid thing. I got on the scale afterwards for a pick me up, and it said I weighed more than I did before I started running, lol...I didn't take into account that my clothes were soaking wet so when I got back home I got on my scale and was at 247.3, then this morning I was at 244.4!, I love losing weight when I sleep, it's easy!

Today at work has been awfully boring, no customers makes for a very long day, lol..last night's workout at the gym was short and sweet as we went to see "Little Fockers" afterwards, but we did get in a pretty high intensity arms session....the movie wasn't near as effective, I think I'd rather run 10 miles than watch that again. lol.

This evening we're planning on doing our 1 hour interval workout after dinner, I think that for some reason eating before working out and then not eating anything for the rest of the night has really done a lot for me, maybe I'm imagining things but I don't remember it being this easy last time.

On another note, I think the human body is just about the weirdest contraption ever, yesterday morning when I got up I weighed myself as I've become accustomed to doing, and it was 244, last night before bed I weighed myself again out of curiosity, and I was at 248.8, then when I woke up this morning I was back at 244, lol..I don't get it.

Another good thing today is that I found a pretty highly recommended omega-3 supplement, I love fish of all types but the wife doesn't care for it, I know omega-3 fatty acids are important so I ordered these orange flavored ones off the internet, I'm happy that she'll be getting her required dosage for once in her life.

Anyways, looking forward to intervals tonight, I'm always tired as hell afterwards but I feel great! Now I just need to get a hot tub to soak in afterwards :)
