From being overweight to lifting weights

I finallly have a trainer!! I had my consult, and I thought what i simply need to do was shed 75 pounds via a treadmill, and go from fat to thin.

He pointed out i have the ideal height and frame to carry good muscle tone (It's true, as my cousin, with my frame, is a competative weight lifter) . My trainer suggested if i work out with weights, not only will my fat burn, but i'll build muscle..

Is he right?

If I can lose my fat- and build muscle, that would be outasight :sifone:

Is weight lifting a good fat burner? I always thought the treadmill/running oustide was the only true way to exercvise away the pounds.

I'm in my early 40s, 6'3, 280 pounds- look my best at 220, but feel my best at 190.
I'd like to get down to 200, and go from a 44 waist back to a 38.
I am physically active, I walk about 5 miles a day- just my weight won't drop under 275 for some reason

Anyone here lift? Any workout ideas?

He's right. Resistance work is a phenomenal fat-burner. Don't write-off cardio though, it'll burn up that 75lbs too. Perhaps start off leaning more towards cardio and as the weight drops I'd lean more and more towards resistance work.

Cardio at first will enhance the quality of workout but improving your ability to manage a longer resistance session ans it'll almost certainly improve the quality of your everyday life.

The most important aspect of weight loss is neither cardo nor weights. It's making dinner ;).

Resistance work, perhaps 2x full body workouts a week, will ensure that you retain muscle mass while in a calorie deficit (which you must be in to lose weight).

Good luck, I hope someone more knowledgeable than me can suggest more specifics.
