For maximum weight loss do you do cardio first or weights first?

In pretty much all the articles I've read, websites I've visited .. they tell you to do the weight training before the cardio ... and that's what I do too. My guess is you wouldn't be able to lift weights as efficiently if you've just been running like crazy for 30 minutes straight... ;-)

Cheers !

Marc ;-)

I agree with weights first IF you insist on doing both every day. I know a lot of people who swear by it and more power to them. I prefer to keep them as different workouts on separate days. Get a good full-body one day and run the next.

do you had any specific diet to execute it?

a personal trainer told me to weight train first when i'm not worn out and then do cardio... just telling you what he said...

I do cardio -weights - cardio

What I usually do is 40 minutes on treadmill then resistance bands then back on treadmill for 30 minutes
Gives me a chance to kind of reset for the next treadmill interval run

You should aim for at least 45 minutes of exercise, a mix of cardio and strength training, six days per week. Again, you don't need to do all this sweating at once, but for the pounds to come off, the calories you burn need to add up. Try this it will surely work

w.o.w Steve and KaraCooks..... for moderators you both seem to have an extremely negative attitude
Just because someone has the wrong information is no reason to bash them over the head. I'm pretty sure they're not going around purposely giving people false information to trip them up.
When people join a weight loss forum it's usually for support and guidance, if they get a bunch of "experts" bashing them over the head because they don't know as much as you do it's the opposite of helpful.

But hey whatever makes you feel superior.

From my research it seems doing Strength Training first and then Cardio is best for reasons previously stated. Although not for maximum weight loss. As in I don't think it greatly affects your weight loss either way, just that you can't put 100% into your strength training if you're already tired from cardio.
The Best would be to do two different sessions in the day (if you're trying to fit in cardio and strength training on the same day)
That way you can give 100% to both.

This thread is over a year old.

Neither Kara nor Steve have 'negative attitudes'. They have the knowledge that the person in question clearly didn't have, and didn't want to have either. Support was offered, but the person in question insisted on their view and refused to even consider that they might be wrong. They also spread information that was clearly false and labelled it as fact.

It is not about being superior, and I would appreciate if you could refrain from derogatory comments like that in the future.

What it is about is to stop false, and potentially harmful information, from being spread around.

That may be the stupidest thing I've ever read on this site. Anyone reading the above post, please disregard that.

Muscle is metabolically active - you WANT to build muscle (or maintain the muscle you have as much as possible) because muscles burn fat, even in a resting state.

When you diet and avoid muscle building exercise, you lose muscle as well as fat. That's not what you want to do.

I was talking about this reply and steves reply to that so on...
Sorry but that IS negative and as far as I can see that person didn't post prior to that on this thread yet they seem to have jumped down their throat.
You don't have to agree but that doesn't mean it doesn't seem that way to some of us.
These are not the kind of people I would be asking for advice that's what I'm saying
I don't think you need to label people as stupid in order to say their information may not be right.
I also find it slightly laughable that you're telling me to refrain from making derogatory comment about people who were making derogatory comments...

Doing what you are telling someone not to do doesn't make it right. Let's keep it somewhat civil please. No one called the poster stupid, it was the statement that was stupid...and to be honest it was stupid advice. Things do tend to be a bit blunt, but just because we have a mod title doesn't mean we have to be sugar-coated.

In addition, the person did post prior to this thread. He also signed up with multiple names and made all kinds of dodgy posts.

You are welcome to find it as laughable as you want, as long as you stick with the rules. And as said, the comments and the whole thread) are over a year old. The horse is rather dead.

I am not an expert, I use logic when I do things. First thing is, when it comes to body weight reduction, each person is different. Some people can reduce weight easily and some will find it very difficult. Coming to the topic, I think it's important to first know how over-weight you are. If you are too much inxs then you have to reduce the excess weight by doing 75% cardio first. Then you may continue with 25% light weight training. You may gradually reduce your cardio time as you lose weight and intensify your weight resistance training. When you think you're back in shape it's still better to a little bit of cardio first to loosen up your muscles . Kara is absolutely right about muscle and body fat. When you weigh grams to grams muscle and body fat weight the same, but muscles occupy less space.

Following is copied and pasted from some other source:

"Muscle does not weigh more than fat, any more than lead weighs more than feathers. A pound is a pound is a pound. Where the misunderstanding often comes in is that muscle is much more dense than fat, so that, by volume, it seems to weigh more. That is, a pound of muscle occupies less space than a pound of fat. In addition, because a pound of muscle burns more fat than a pound of fat, even at rest, by increasing your lean muscle tissue mass, you're helping your body burn more calories. "

Not sure this thread is still active but....

I too have heard cardio then weights. Like the person in the army said they lifted to fatigue then took a day off. I have experienced the best results from cardio then lift muscle group to fatigue, take a day off from lifting just do cardio then big time cardio and lifting the next day.

There are several schools of thought out there, the best thing I can tell you is try a few different ways and pick the best one for you. To many blanket statements / one size fits all programs and statements. If you are looking for a good plan, one that I have found success on my website has some info on it.
