Football VS Soccer

OK! I would appreciate if everybody in there honest opinon would tell me if they did highschool football and soccer or just one of both. I was kind of wondering which would get you in better shape overall.

Thanks

Overall shape? Well if you mean aerobicly and/or health wise, then soccer. If you mean strength and size, more football.

These are generalizations, there are some football players who are more fit than soccer and vice versa.

If its any help here in the UK I do both RUGBY and Soccer. Don't limit yourself to one sport. Last year I was in around 5 or 6 school teams, but then the problem of catching up missed lessons occurs.

He can't do that Wood, at least not in high school. Football and soccer play during the same season here, in the fall.

Football (US) will get you stronger, and fitter for burst-sport (ie sprint, stop, sprint, stop...)

Soccer will get you fitter in terms of endurance fitness and your heart.

I believe Soccer overall is more "healthy" for you. Your Strengthining your heart and improving your endurance. (plus less chance of injury)

However, if your playing football you will have increases your speed, strength, and size.

It can go either way.

Sport Fitness

PLAYING soccer would get you in better shape. TRAINING for football gets you in shape. It's all about getting bigger, stronger, and faster off the field, and show on the field later. Training for football is you thing is you want a beefy body, if you want to be lean, try soccer.

Soccer FTW. I do have to agree though that while soccer players have better cardio fitness they are not as big and beefy as football players. I would, however, recomend wrestling over football if you want size and strength. I did it for a season in high school and even the football players on the team agreed it was the better total body workout.

I think you should play Football and Rugby. I found that I did more running in Rugby (as a winger) than in Soccer. You get the cardio work and the strength training in one sport ... and what's better than taking a guy down without all the padding in the way.

Rugby is an awesome cardio workout.

I played blindside flanker for 9 years, and I've never known a sport to get me to cover as much of the ground as that. They told me to chase the ball wherever it went :D

Mind you, all the rucks and tackles caught up eventually...

Football and Rugby. Both great sports, alot of work, and awesome workouts.

Wrestling is also brutal, but very good. Conditioning for wrestling is like the military. Intense, but in the end you'll be so much stronger and healthier, it's all worth it.
