Foot pain gone after changing eating habits

For the past year and a half, I've dealt with horrible foot pain, otherwise known as plantar faciitis. I remember exactly when it started, after waiting in line for 12 hours at the Red Cross facility after Katrina. It's has been horrible dealing with it for so long, pain that made me limp and walk on the side of my foot. Since I've started eating better and about the same time I added fish oil supplements to my diet, the pain suddenly dissappeared, literally overnight. Isn't that amazing! I can't even tell how how nice it is to be able to walk flat footed now on my right foot. Could there be a correlation between the diet or the fish oil? Anyone that has ever dealt with constant pain knows how wonderful this is.

that's awesome that it went away...

I experiece the same kind of pain when my sneakers start to get worn down - once I get fresh sneakers -pain stops again... so I know how good that feeling is...

I'm that anyone! I call it plantar fascism, because it controls so much of your life. I had it for 18 months myself, and its disappearance coincided with starting to lose weight.

By far the worst pain in the middle of all that pain was getting a steroid shot in my heel. Holy Moly, I have NEVER felt anything like that! And it's no quick shot, either. It seemed like it lasted about a minute, and the whole time you feel like screaming out.

I stretch my calves every day, because I'm terrified of getting it back.

Tom, that's great to hear. I wonder what is the correlation between eating habits and this condition? Mine had been progressively getting worse over the past 6 month and then WHAMOO! Gone! I'm so estatic about it, it's great to be able to get up from a chair and walk normally.

I have a feeling the correlation may be with the increased exercise, not necessarily the weight loss, although that probably helps too. When you start working out, you naturally extend your calf muscles more.

I'm not really sure, though. But like you, I'm thankful every day that it's out of my life.

Wow... you people blow me away....

I suffered from horrible foot pain which I just thought was normal for years, so never got it checked. I wonder if what I was suffering from could have been gout or PF.... And come to think of it, other than blisters and callouses from the walking, they are now gone. May be the diet, but I too started taking omega 3 oil again and feel so much better all over. I had a doctor once who recommended it highly for joint and foot pain, but I never thought of that till now. I shall have to google it and look into it further.

No, it wasn't gout, definitely PF.

Sirant, the pain from plantar faciitis (sp?) starts in the arch towards to the inside of the foot. It tightens up everytime you rest your foot and then when you stand on it, it starts tearing. Usually I would have to limp for a while till that muscle or whatever it is would stretch back out. It's very painful. Eventually my pain started spreading through other parts of my foot. If left untreated or uncared for, it can lead to bone spurs. I wore special insoles to help with the pain, being barefoot actually made it worse. I was about ready to start using night splints to help but luckily I don't have to do that now.

Yes, I have insoles for all of my shoes now. Big difference. I tried the night splints. Impossible to sleep with them The blankets stick on them, and it's like trying to sleep with your leg stuck in a spider web.

My mom had the same foot pain, and it went away when she lost weight.
As for me, I had a foot pain, but it went away when I stopped wearing UGGS and went back to Tennis Shoes :p
