Unfortunately, food is so much more fun than work and housework!

Hello all,
I am new here, trying to get back on track with my weight and fitness. I gained wieght during and after a divorce, and for the last year and a half have been working on this stuff. I lost in the range of 50 pounds, and was close to my goal, but in the last few months, have gotten bored by my exercise routine, overwhelmed by life, and have regained about 12 pounds. Yikes!

I want to get back on track, so I'm trying to 'mix it up' and try some new strategies. Biggest problems for me include wanting to snack at work because so often I face a long list of tedious tasks I strongly dislike, and would way rather take a break and have a snack instead. Also, in the evening, especially when my child is with his dad or asleep, the couch and the munchies beckon.

So, I guess a big challenge for me is how to avoid using food too often as pleasure and relief from too many dull obligations, accepting that life does involve a lot of responsibilities that I don't always enjoy.

nice to meet you!

Hello and welcome! Congratulations on what you've achieved so far!

I can certainly relate to wanting to snack at work. I put on lots of weight for that very reason, I think. I have a rule : I can only eat what I bring to work, and I only bring what I *should* be eating. I don't even bring money to work with me for fear of temptation! :)

thanks for the welcome!

Hi all,

Thanks for the welcome! And the idea of not bringing money to work, that is definitely worth some thought! Some days I'm organized and manage to pack a lunch and snacks, but other days, things are hectic and I don't plan well and am not prepared... and my work is located in an area with very little healthy light food available, but plenty of meatier stuff... not to mention the candy machines just down the hall, very convenient for a little break/stroll! Ugh. :)

Thanks!

Yes, the money thing certainly worked well. It's amazing how your brain will play tricks on you to get you to eat `Hmm, I'll just have a light snack. Oh, maybe someting chocolate. While I'm at it, I might as well have a few things and then I'll get back to my proper diet tomorrow'. Ahhhh!

Once I'd been eating more healthily and started getting results, I found it a lot easier to resist. I got into the mindset of `I don't eat that sugary, fatty muck, that's what other people eat', and feeling pretty good about it!
