food is fuel - need a formula

So, for a period of time, I want to take the focus off of food as an activity and treaty it as a basic input. I want to put fuel in my system and get back to other things. But, I need a recipe for this. I don't mind doing the prep work to make my fuel, but I want to do it once a week and then be able to either eat it cold or simply reheat. anyone have any ideas? here are my criteria:

1) I don't care what it tastes like.
2) it has to give me the correct calories and nutrition.
3) it has to be cooked one a week and the stored until serving.
4) it would preferably be cooked in one pot.

This is going to sound gross, but I'm picturing something like an pet food (sort of like kibble or stew).

Any thoughts and suggestions would be welcome.

Hi there,

To be honest it's really not a good idea to just stick to the exact same meal every day. Why don't you just take the prep time to make 3 or 4 different healthy meals.

May I ask why it is your planning to do this? is it a time thing?

If you absolutely must eat the same meal, I have a recipe that seems to cover all food groups, and tastes great (although I'm not sure it'll taste great after eating it 5 days in a row).

- In a pan or wok, brown some chicken breast (or meat of your choice).
- add in some chopped mushroom and cauchet to brown.
- Pour over the chicken etc a can (or two or three) of coconut cream.
- add frozen stir fry veges or a mix of your choice (some ideas are chopped carrots, sweed, corn, brocolli, cauliflower, chopped pepper, spinach, whole whole cherry tomatoes, a few chillis if you dare).
- add in your favorite style of noodles
- add a variety of your favorite spices. I use mexican chilli powder (lots of it), thyme, rosemary and mixed herbs (may sound like a random mix but it's all I had in the spice rack).
- grate in 5 or so brazil nuts and seasame seeds.
- put the lid on and allow the veges to cook on a low temp.
- if need be, take the lid off and let the coconut cream reduce.

This may sound like a big recipe, but it's basically a "throw everything in and wait recipe" that tastes great, it gives you alot of energy to burn, and is excellent for keeping your immunity in check.

I would make the whole dish, allow it to cool then pour it into 5 containers to reheat each night.

I have a few other ideas that would be individual meals that would take literally 5 minutes to cook (I hate spending an hour cooking a meal) when you get home each night, but I think I'm taking up a little too much room on the forum, so let me know if you're interested and I'll post them.

All the best,
Smoothie-Guy

Not to rain on your parade, Smoothie Guy, but I have to disagree with your recipe. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE coconut milk (and the recipe sounds yummy), but there is no way in heck I'd eat it every day. It is LOADED with saturated fat. Nothing wrong with a little saturated fat, but you really need healthy fats for complete nutrition.

I think the reason that no one else has responded to this is that there isn't one perfect meal. Optimal nutrition is about variety. I'm sure you could come up with some sort of gruel that would meet your macro-nutrient requirements and supplement with a multi-vitamin, but it's just not the same as eating a variety of lean protein, whole grain, fruits, vegetables and healthy fats.

And trust me, after a period of time eating the stew/kibble/gruel, you would probably end up binging on all of your favorites, anyways. Better to develop a healthy relationship with food that you can take through the rest of your life.

Hi blackwdw,

Fair call on the saturated fat. I do think there are much better ways to prepare meals ahead of time, preparing a variety of different meals that can be stored or, as I mentioned making healthy meals that would take no longer than 5 minutes to prepare, the same amount of time it would take to reheat a meal.

why not if you have to go down this route prepare a few different meals that can be frozen for later conveneice? .

but i agree with most people, it wont be good for you to eat this way. it will furthut deteriorate your attitde to food and i think variation is the spice of life. why dont you want to enjoy your food? you should as your body enjoys a good varied meal. dont deprive yourself
