Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and also just started diet and workouts, i'm only 26 yoa and 180lbs at 5"2 height, i was feeling more and more lazy, down all the time so i decided its time to do something about it!!
I'm working full time so the only time i can go to gym is evening, i get home after work about 7pm, so i go straight to gym and comeback around 9pm. As far as i'm concerned its not allowed to eat this time. But i'm starving going to bed and usually don't sleep well
I can eat only 3 times a day, i don't have time for a snacks, due to my work, so basically i'll have only b/fast and lunch!
Can i eat something maybe before gym or maybe salad after?

Thanks a mill,

Hi!
I am also 26 and unfortunately my schedule is approximately like yours. I have to go to work at 9 am and come back at 6pm...But in spite of that I am trying to go to aerobic classes 3 times a week for one hour, sauna twice; I try to walk as often as possible; swim in week-ends and after all this efforts I and still have problems with cellulite…I also use a very good product Hydro-Active Anti-Cellulite Body Milk from Aslaskin every day after bath or shower. I’ve been using it for a while and I must say that results are showing up... My advice would be, to try not to eat in the evening (after 7pm) and definitely not after you come back from the gym. Also is recommended not to eat with 1 or 2 hours before you go to gym, or you will be full and you won't be able to work properly :) Try at least for a week or two and your stomach will get used not to eat in the evening ....or if you are very very hungry, have an apple :)

Post workout nutrition, as well as pre, is extemely important. You can and should eat after you come home from the gym. Total calories is what matters. If you are in a deficit, it doesn't really matter when you eat your food. You can't create something out of nothing. ;)

food after gym

Hi,
You definately need to eat after working out. In fact you do not eat frequently enough to sustain long-term weight loss. If you do too much cardio and don't eat your body will eventually realize it's starving and your metabolism will tank-that is not what you want. You should try to eat 5-6 small meals a day--pack food to take to work daily, a premixed protein shake would do well for some of these meals, and definately eat after the workout. Post workout nutrition is crucial. Your body needs to replenish its glycogen stores and will use the carbs you take in at that time. Of course you want only good carbs. You will do yourself a great disservice if you force yourself to go hungry. The literature in fact does not support the whole don't eat after such and such a time thing. Your total calories for the day are what's important.

Meal frequency really doesn't play a large role in weight loss. I recommend eating frequent meals, but if it doesn't fit one's schedule, it really isn't a big deal, since as you say, total calories for the day is what's important.

Also, post workout nutrition is key, especially in regards to anaerobic activities such as weight lifting, not so much for the glycogen replenishment, but more so for the insulin response and anti-catabolic effects it has when a fast digesting protein is consumed along with the carbs.

Thanks for your replies, appreciate that.

I've been on this forum for a while now so i'm getting the idea of calorie counting and working out properly!!
Getting results, so delighted!!!

I agree with everybody else. I usually schedule myself to have a small meal (200-300 calories) after working out, which usually comes at about 11:00 at night. I just can't sleep on an empty stomach, and so I work it into my daily calories.
