Five Weeks In

I started my plan to live healthier on Febuary 8. I didn't know my weight at the time so I had to buy a scale. I had my first weigh-in on Febuary 17. I have lost 22 pounds in the last five weeks. I started at 405 pounds on 2/17 and on 3/23 I weighted 382 pounds. I am consuming about 1500 calories a day and eating a lore healtier with more fruits and vegatables and whole grains. I am also doing daily swim M-F and also walking about 30-90 minutes per day. I drink about 64-80 ounces of water a day. I already feel a lot better and feel like I have more energy. I started only being able to walk about 20 minutes but now I am able walk 90 minutes per day (around 3 mph). My blood pressure has already started to come down. I started doing lap swim during week 3 and I have been consistently going every weekday. I work at home so I have the time to exercise. I am now swimming around 30-45 minutes in the mornings and then go on a walk in the afternoon. I take a men's daily multi-vitamin. I am also keeping a food and exercise journal along with a narrative journal. I consider this a lifestyle change. At first, things with my wife were difficult but she has become a lot more supportive. My mother had weight loss surgery a few years ago but I really don't want to have surgery. My brother is also over 350 pounds so obesity runs in our family. I know I can do it but it is just going to take persistence, patience, and will power. My goal is to consume around 1500 calories per day and trying to have at least 60 minutes of cardio six days a week. I was trying to consume about 1200 pounds per day but I felt weak so I increased it to about 1500 calories per day. I consider this a lifelong change to be healthier. My short term goal is to continue losing about 2 pounds per week. I know it will take a long time to get to my goal but I am committed to living better. I'm 6-0 and my weight was about 200 pounds 10 years ago and I feel like that is a good weight for me. I am 37 years old. My goal is to get to under 200 pounds. It may take me up to two years to reach my goal but I know I can do it. I also find prayer a helpful motivator. I was sick during week 4 and dehydrated which explains the big loss that week. If you have any advice, suggestions, or words of encouragement, that would be welcome.

Awesome job. Congratulations, and keep up the good work. Just remember, don't cheat. If you are anything like me, you can throw away a whole week of hard work with one night of poor eating.

Best wishes on your journey...Kevin
