Fitness/ weight problem

Help!
I am not exactly what you would call over weight but i am not thin either! i am at that stage where a beer belly is beginning to emerge! Anyway, due to this new situation me and one of my mates has agreed to attempt to run a marathon in a years time, he is considerably fitter than me so it is no use going to him for help. I was wondering if i could get any advice from this forum about training plans, diets etc. please bear in mind i am a student and so anything expensive is out the question, i am an avid bike rider and ride for almost an hour a day at the moment, but this isnt loosing the belly.
Cheers

Well start eating a balanced diet. Look in the healthy recipe section for some good ideas. Look to eat 5-7 meals per day. I would start light weight training at your school gym, along with running, which is what you plan on doing anyways. Start drinking a lot of water also.

If you are a student, I assume that you are young. If you have a beer gut..........you have to look at your nutrition. Bike riding is great, but unless you are using a heart rate monitor you may not be working in the correct zone for you.
