Financials withstanding, you should look at gym memberships anyways; you might be surprised at how little they cost. YMCA gyms in perticular are generally pretty cheap, and in my area, the YMCAs have pretty nice facilities. My only problem with them is their hours, but it's not a huge deal.

As for dieting, yeah, you need a huge do-over there. As you'll read in the forums, the best way to eat is to eat five small meals a day, approximatley 2-4 hours apart from each other. This keeps your metabolism going all the time. You'll also want to eat more natural foods; sugars and processed foods usually don't have much nutrition.

If anything, start running three to five days a week for at least 45 minutes, but the more the better. Keep in mind, though, that if you do not actually stress your muscles and force them to need to regrow, they'll atrophy and you will loose your over all bodily stength.

Working out and getting fit may sound hard, but you'll get into the routine of things and be glad you did.

Edit: As for the tea, sugar, and milk, I say get rid of it. Since working out, all I ever drink is water and skim milk and some occasional coffee (straight black, nothing in it), and I don't miss soda one bit. Starting good habits is hard, believe me. >_<

Edit 2: Pictures would also help some of the more experianced members here see how far you need to go. What's your age, weight, %BF, height? More info would help.

5'6" at 130lbs at age 19? You sound completely healthy. Either way, it seems that you're more interested in loosing just 'vanity pounds' and don't have any actual weight problem. If that's the case, you can try to loose it in a more 'cheap' fashion (i.e. eating very little for a while) but it's not very health, and when people usually do fad dieting things like that, they gain the weight right back, and sometimes even more.

If your interested in becoming a physically fit person, then read the FAQs and work diligently towards them. If you just want an easy way to loose a few pounds... well, I'm not sure, that's not what we're about here. :)

Well good! The first thing you should do is set your goals, and they should be quantitative and measurable. Find a date on the calender that you want to be at what you consider you're ideal weight and composition. Then, using some of the FAQs linked in the stickys in this forum, read about dieting, exercising, and how to live more healthy. You may also want to consider talking to a personal trainer to help build a workout routine. You said a gym membership may not be possible, so then again, you could always try talking to some of your friends that regularly work out and get their opinions.

Like I said, the YMCA is not a bad place to go. Where I live, it's about 25$/month, but I'm in college and I understand how money can be tight. See if your place of work or if your university has a gym, those are usually free for worker/student use.

The gist of getting healthy is this: Eat 5-7 small, low fat, high carb, high protein meals per day, do a full body workout 3x a week, and get at least 3 hours of cardio a week.

Let us know if you need more help!
