Fit but Bigger

Hello,

I started to do some aerobics and strenght training about a month ago. I see great results, meaning my whole body is getting tigher, my butt is much more firm and so are my tighs. My problem is that now my jeans fit very tight around my tighs. How can I fix that?

I am 36..haven't worked out for 3 years because I was ill. I eat around 1700 to 1800 calories a day, not always only the best but I try to most of the time.
I weight 145 lbs now..I used to weight around 140lbs...I am 6ft tall.
I do 20-30 min aerobic every day of the week...and strenght train for a different body part each day after.

Any clues on how I could fix that?

Buy bigger pants?

Seriously you seem to be at the perfect weight level for your height. I wouldn't try to loose any weight. I think you just gained a little muscle at areas that you didn't have any before and now you need clothes to fit around them :D

Who said loosing weight?

Hi Nicole,

Thanks for the idea but the actual problem is that I do not want to have to spend money to buy new pants. I never said I wanted to loose weight, I was just wondering if I was doing something wrong that would make me get larger tighs. I read somewhere that it's better to rest between work out days? Could that be it? Or would swim be as good for cardio and make my leg slimmer instead of aerobics?

We learn new stuff everyday....please teach me!!

I started working out a couple months ago, and the same thing happened to me. You're not doing anything wrong from what I can tell. I was kinda disturbed at first, until I figured out that a bigger butt was generally a good thing. I stuck with my baggy trackpants until I came upon money to buy new jeans.

honeybee, nice signature. haha nerdy yet VERY true. lol.
btw, flat butts are not "the thing," i would agree. lol
however, too big isnt good either.

Yes. We like big butts, we cannot lie. Men that is.

One of the side effects (albeit a great one) of exercise is that sometimes your muscles grow =D The upshot to this is that bigger muscles burn more calories throughout the day.

If you want that to happen less, try exercises that stress the legs less. Swimming is a good way to get a lithe muscular body -- though if you're swimming properly, you're using your legs a lot.

(An aside: I was on the swim team in high school, and we often had exercises where we swam using only our legs or only our arms. For guys, arms-only was super easy but legs were difficult, and for women, it was just the opposite. Interesting!)

Thanks for the insight....My butt is not getting bigger thou ( I wish I had a bigger/rounder butt) only my tighs..so I guess I'll try swimming and slack of on the tighs workout..maybe concentrate on butt.

Do you think Pilates would be good..do they really make you tight but still slim?

Thanks Again

Annie

You are probably going to have to consult with a trainer in your area. The increase in size could be anything. It could be muscle. It could be fat over muscle. It could just be fat.

Without asking you to post lots and lots of information... my general suggestion would be to really drill down and figure out if everything in your routine is perfect. and then be sure everything in your meals is perfect :)
