Fit and Healthy

Hi,
My name is Amy and I'm in the military. I work in a pediatric clinic in OK and we have a program called fit and healthy. This program is used in order to get the youth here to start working out and to lower the population of obese youth in the U.S. Does anyone have any tips on how I could motivate some of my patients to be more faithful to getting into better shape?

Provide them with fun things that promote fitness. Team or individual sports, riding bikes, rollerblading, etc.

Exercise doesn't have to feel like work :)

teaching better eating habits, that's the rough part. get them off the soda pop. There was something on Dateline or 20/20 or Nightline not too long ago, talking about all these kids in this southern coal mining town and the huge number of adult tooth decay due to the amount of Mt. Dew consumed.

Literally these young kids had fully rotted teeth! Way unattractive, painful, and a health issue since eating requires teeth.

Yeah, we deffinately try to tackle the eating too. I'm thinking about putting together a couple nights a week where I go to the gym with a couple of the pt's who come to these meetings, that way they have someone to go with. I also think it might help with motivation

Sex sells... Sex motivate... use it, abuse it, and apply it...

Oh, get your head out of the gutter, I mean sex appeal. :) yeah, that's it...

I don't think that would work very well seeing as we have all ages of children and young adult coming in with their parents, but thank you for the thought
