fish/flax oil vs nuts

i know that fish/flax oil is good for weight loss, when on a weight loss diet of course. im pretty sure i already know the answer but, since i dont take fish or flax oil, do nuts substitute for the oils just fine? being nuts are my main, pretty much only source of fat. except for some red meats. but im gonna stop the unlean red meats when i cut.

you should try to consume your fats through multiple sources
nuts, Olive oil, almond butter, Avacados, Peanut butter, salmon just to name a few.

nuts are a great source of fat, having a good amount in poly and mono fats, but they favour more monounsaturates, therefore they don't really subsitute for fish oils and flax.

You also need to consume fish oils/flax to bring the omega 3 + 6's up.
You just gota remember that omega 3 and 6 fats are EFA's and ur body cant produce them. So fatty fish and flax would definatley be something worth looking into. Nuts alone will not be optimal.

pss. theyre not only good for weightloss, they are essential for building muscle, as these fats increase testosterone levels/absorb fat soluble vitamins/help your immune system and more.

Wow I didn't know flax and fish oil were good for weight loss. I grind up flax seeds and put the powder in my smoothies. The problem with flax oil as opposed to buying the whole seed is that it goes rancid quite rapidly (why it needs to be refrigerated) and it also tastes pretty foul in oil form. It is also pretty darn expensive. So I recommend getting the whole flax seeds. You can buy them in the bulk section of your Health food store for about 90 cents a pound and all you have to do is grind up 1 or 2 tablespoons in a coffee grinder and then put them in your shakes or smoothies.

By the way Corple a good choice of fish to acquire your omegas is Salmon.

or you could buy already ground up flaxseed. Flax has got to be the best source for poly ... especially omega 3's.

Fats in fish such as salmon/mackeral ect are fish oils. But getting them as supplements makes it easier to consume, as you dont have to keep on eating fish all the time just for fats, or any other food that contains fats. Although i dont think u NEED to supp with fats, cuz if u know wat foods supply them, its pretty simple to incorporate them into your diet.

My sources of fat are this:
Peanut butter(natural)/nuts
salmon
olive oil or almond butter
ground flax seed
CLA (This being a different form of polyunsaturates)

This way im getting the right amounts of 3+6's and getting some monounsaturates in too.

So does having tins of tuna provide plenty of good fats? I know it contains omega 3 + 6's because it says so on the label, but does having say half a tin a day along with 1oz of walnuts seem like a good amount of fats for fat loss? I have about 40g of fat everyday and most of it comes from tuna and walnuts. Would you say this is enough?

well, ive asked for fish/flax oil but my mom always puts it off, says well get it later  . canola oil can take the place of those right? even though i havent used that stuff. except last night, when my mom cooked some salmon  . but as for poly, instead of grinding up flax seeds, ive got a tub of walnuts that have 13gpoly 2.5gmono for 185cals(1oz). plus weve recently started buying alot more fish. i have a salmon defrosting on my counter right now thats going to last through the day. fish is so good. we used to have a bottle of flax oil in the fridge, but i threw it out cause we never touched it :( i wish i knew what it was good for...
and what is CLA?

you get 40g of fat from canned tuna? is that possible?

if your looking for anything and everything thats in your food. if you dont already know about this wonderful site. you can look up foods specifically high in poly or mono...anything.

Are you sure it's Tuna your eating, heh.
I know that Tuna in water only has around 1g of fat like corple said.
And Tuna in vegetable broth has about 5g, most of them being omega 6.
i myself have never seen a can with 15g of fat.
Wat brand name of tuna do you eat slimmer??

CLA is Conjegated Linoleic Acid. Most scientists don't know the full effects of it, its a bit mysterious... But they have done studys on it and it gives benefits on many levels.
- Increases Fat metabolism and help prevent muscle catabolism
- strengthens your immune system
- is an anti-oxidant
- enhances muscle growth

Its a worth while diet supplement to me. Ive been taking it with a clean diet and proper training and can't complain from results ive been getting.

its called Princes Tuna Chunks In Sunflower Oil, and for half a can (65g) you get 128 cals, 16 protein, 0 carbs and 7 fat. So in all, from a can you get 14g of fat.

I guess its the sunflower oil that gives it the extra fat?

Don't forget that a "tuna" isn't a big block of material that they manufacture in factories - it's a living thing with a complex biological structure -- depending on which parts they use in your tuna (assuming they don't just blend it all together) you're bound to get different amounts of fat.

I'm not sure if they do separate it - but if you're a fan of sushi like me, you know that regular tuna is fairly cheap, while fatty tuna is incredibly expensive.

So does the Princes tuna seem fine to you then? it has good nutrional values so i assume its good stuff. Not really bothered about the price.
