Finding Peta...The real me

Hello everybody!!

Well heres me...36 yr old female needing to get to goal to pursue a dream of having a family.
I started today and am feeling so positive about this i could rule the world. I'm old hat at this D & F business but this time there is a life goal to aim for.

So without further ado.. Here are my honest answers to the 'sticky' questions..

-- How much weight do you want to lose?
23lbs or 10.43kg

-- What is the timeframe for reaching your target weight?
Ultimately, 19 Feb 2010 but sooner would be good

-- How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)?
Weight Watchers plan combined with the Wendie plan. Exercise 6 times per week with hard cardio 3 times and walking/stretching 3 times
-- Who or what can support you in reaching your goal?
Keeping to the plan and exercise regime.
My husband is my diet/fitness partner and my friend is going to be weighing me weekly

-- How realistic is your goal?
Based on a healthy loss of 2lbs per week, and allowing for TOTM fluctuation, this goal is very realistic

-- When will you start?
Today. This morning was the first day of the rest of my life

1. What is your current height and weight?
I’m 5’ 10” and weigh 170lbs
2. If you were at an ideal weight now, what would that weight be?
147lbs
3. At what weight would you like to be at four months from now?
147lbs
4. Why do you want to lose weight?
For 2 main reasons. I don’t like what I see when I look in the mirror and more importantly to me, I have tubal infertility and are going to be having an IVF treatment cycle starting Feb 2010. I have to lose a minimum of 10lbs but if I can do that, why not try for goal?
5. Do you want to lose weight for a specific life event such as wedding or reunion? If so, when is that event?
See above answer*

6. What obstacles could get between you and your weight loss goals?
Ideally, nothing should but life stresses can be a contribution to overeating, comfort eating etc. Also, with Christmas/New year celebrations coming up, there is the potential to go off the rails. This is where I hope the variation of the Wendie plan will help.
7. Why do you think that you now have a weight problem?
I’m not overweight but the reason I am heavier than ideal is greed.
8. What lifestyle changes do you think would help you lose weight?
Getting motivated. Getting off my arse in the evenings and having a walk instead of watching tv/surfing the net all evening
9. Have you lost weight in the past? If so, what has worked in the past to help you lose weight?
I have lost weight in the past. I lost 25lbs from January 09-April 09. When I went on holiday at the end of April, I went off the rails and haven’t (until today) found my way again
10. Why do you believe that you did not lose weight or you gained the weight back?
Again, greed, no willpower, eating out too much, eating unhealthy processed and convenience foods, gradually eating bigger portions
11. What, if anything, has not worked for you in the past in helping you to lose weight? Why do you think it did not work?
Fad diet plans, quick fix soup diets etc… Even the low carb plan didn’t work because I got so grouchy it made home life intolerable
12. Would you try writing down all food and drink consumed for a given period of time?
I used to do this on the WW plan and have started again today.
13. Do you cook at home often? If so, what do you cook?
Yes we do cook a lot at home and have a pretty varied menu but we definitely lack in the fruit and veg area.
14. How often do you go out to eat? Where do you go?
We used to eat out 3-4 times per week but now it’s twice per week, 1 so called bad day of chicken kebabs and chips on Fridays and a good day of Roast dinner with 5 different veggies
15. What are your three favorite foods?
Chinese, Indian, Mexican
16. What are your three favorite restaurants?
Chinese, Hungry Horse and the local carvery restaurant
17. What are three things you can do differently when it comes to food?
Make smaller portions, introduce more F & V into my diet, eat more fresh meat
18. If you woke up tomorrow and your body was exactly the way you want it, what would be different?
I’d be happier with looking in the mirror
19. Do you eat when you are not hungry?
Yes, I snack according to time not hunger
20. Do you binge eat (large amounts at a time)?
Not binge eat as such, I just have large portions as I barely ever feel full
21. Do you hide your food or eat in secret?
No
22. Do you eat when you are sad, nervous, or depressed?
Definitely, for comfort
23. Do you eat as a reward?
Definitely, and have been known to reward myself with food if I’ve done well at my diet. (Kind of defeats the object)
24. Do you eat while watching TV or using the computer?
Yes, I don’t have a dining table so the tv is always on when I eat
25. What do you normally eat for a meal?
Spaghetti bolognaise, Home fish and chips but with garlic bread and extra fish gougons with beans, Sausages with mash and corn, Curries, Chilli con Carne, Nachos especial from home, pork chops with roast potatos and veg……………….

26. What type of snacks do you eat?
Cornettos, mince pies, crisps, biscuits
27. In terms of exercise, what, if anything, are you currently doing?
Before today, I haven’t been exercising for about 6 weeks
28. Where do you go for exercise? A local public gym? School/work gym? Home?
Work gym 3x per week, EA Active and My fitness Coach on the Wii and home eliptical
29. What, if anything, are your three favorite types of exercise?
Walking outside (but not in winter), EA Active and My Fitness Coach. I’m not a fan of the gym but the treadmill for running gives excellent results
30. What is your daily/weekly/monthly/yearly motivation to move towards your goals?
Ultimately to have the IVF work and have a family
31. Do you have rewards for certain goals?
I’m a really keen reader and Wii games player so I’m going to reward myself with a book or new game when I get to certain goals.

:waving:Hi Peta, welcome to the forum.
I am also tracking points through WW and find it very reasonable and something I can make a lifestyle of instead of some of those fad diets. What is the Wendie plan you talk about?
Good luck with your journey - I hope it all works out for you. I'll be checking back to see how your doing.:seeya:

Hi there, :seeya:

Thank you for visiting.
The Wendie plan is a variation on the ww plan. Instead of having say 20 points per day, you mix them up during the week and have high days and low days.
Its best for me to get you to google wendie plan and have a read. There are rules to it you see to make it work.
For a formula to fit into your own points allowance have a look at

It's also a good variation plan to use when you plateau.

I agree that the WW plan is very reasonable. It lets you eat 'real food'

Good luck to you too on your journey. I'm just settling in so i will have a look to see if you have a diary too.

It sounds like I am on the Wendie plan then because one day I will have 18 points and the next day 24 points but at the end of the week I make sure they equal out or that I'm below and not over. Maybe because I am in Canada the programs could be a little different. We are also allowed 35 flex points to use throughout the week so I usually save all those points for the weekend when I don't have as much willpower. My diary is titled "Time to Stick with it!!" hope you get a chance to have a read.:seeya:

Well I got off to a really bad start being ill over the last 2 weeks.
I have to be on a diet of non processed, high fruit and veg, high protein foods.
No coloured liquids, no orange juice, fairly high fibre and low fat.

Hopefully i can incorperate the ww plan to this.
I think i need to hunt around for the old core plan as this looks like it might be the best way. Although i will still do the Wendie plan.

So anyway....Monday 9th Nov (tomorrow) is where i start..

Hey Peta,

Sorry to hear you've been ill. It often seems the way when you're just starting a new lifestyle that you get sick. Like the body is saying 'no don't do it keep eating the junk food'.

I'm losing weight to help with ivf as well. I had one (failed) round in April/May and thought that I should really get to a healthy weight range before trying again. Best of luck to you and your partner.

See you round. Good luck with day 1!

Ana

You can do it Peta. Everyday choices - slow and steady wins the race! ;)

Good luck on your Couch to 5K training program, I may look into that for myself this time around.

Check you later,
