Ever since I started training for a 5k last October I haven't had my period. Which means I've missed 8. My mom thinks it's because I'm still growing. Personally I pretty sure I'm done growing. I had my period regularly for 2 years before it stopped!
I started exercising a whole lot more than normal after I did the 5k. And I started to restrict what I ate, I only would eat "heathly" low calorie foods. I'm 5' 4", and I dropped from 112 lbs to 104 lbs. I was only eating about 500-800 calories a day, and exercising every other hour! I remember dreading the holidays because of all the food. I remember panicking after I got shin splints in both my legs. I'm very grateful I did though, because while I was looking up ways to help heal sin splints "quickly" I came across eating disorders and an article about exercise bulimics. It described me almost perfectly! I was shocked! I had no idea I was taking it to that extreme. It scared me.
After reading that I decided right then and there that this compulsive exercise was going to stop. I now keep a calorie journal and make sure I eat at least 1,800 cal a day. I've gained some weight and feel so much more energized! I only workout for about an hour a day 5 times a week. I'm make sure that I'm balancing all my food groups. I enjoy exercise so much more now! But, I'm wondering if I should be worried about the fact my period hasn't come back. What do you guys think?
