i feel hungry all the time, im thinking it could just be my contraceptive pill doing it.luckily im not giving into and stuffing my face tho.
its such a pain xx

If you set things up correctly, it shouldn't be a struggle where you're constantly thinking about giving in. What are your stats? How many calories per day are you consuming? How frequently are you eating? What are you eating?

I feel hungry all the time too but don't take any medications other than metformin, and I always felt hungry before taking that too. I think some of us are just cursed that way and we have to just get used to feeling hungry without overeating all the time.

Sometimes I will listen to music, drink coffee, go for a walk or watch a DVD while pedaling my stationary bike. Or maybe I'll just take a nap hehe.

You should not be feeling hungry all the time if you are on a healthy program. The key to dieting is to burn more calories than you take in, but that does not mean you should be starving yourself. You need to take a closer look at what you are eating, when you are eating it, and how much you are eating.
To start, you should be eating at least 5 to 6 small meals a day. To find a proper balance in the foods you should be eating, you should figure out what your body type is. At the Jacqueline Nauvall Institute of Health, we use the How to Get Thin Fast Program that helps you figure out what your body type is. Since we are all different, we can't all eat the same. Once you figure that out, you should eat your 5 to 6 meals a day with balancing your carbs, protein, and fats according to your body type.
By eating 5 to 6 meals a day, you are regulating your blood sugar. This will help you to stay satisfied. The danger of walking around hungry all day is that you will eventually give in to the hunger. You will end up eating fast food or vending machine products for that quick fix. You know how many calories that can add! In addition, when you are hungry, it means that your body thinks that you are going into starvation mode. It will start storing fats just in case. This obviously has the opposite effect that you are looking for.
If you learn to eat the right foods, you will be keeping your body happy. In return, your body will start working for you instead of against you, by revving up your metabolism. This in turn burns more calories and fat!
You should also increase your water intake. This too will help you stay feeling satisfied!

To be honest, I'm not a fan of laying this out there as a necessity. It's certainly not required for weight loss. The problem is, some folks actually feel hungrier eating more frequently. Sure, the research points towards it helping with satiety for most people. But that's not everyone.

I've been in this field a long time and I can say roughly 30% of the people I've worked with fare better on lower meal frequencies.

Suggesting someone *must* eat 5-6+ meals per day is an exercise of unnecessary pigeonholing, if you ask me. We need to take more of an individualized approach.

I see you are in the UK. It's starting to get cold, windy, stormy, dark and wet here!!!

I find I get hungrier as winter kicks off in the UK. At this time of year we haven't quite pulled out all our winter woollies and many places do not have their heating up and running properly so I start to feel the cold. And I think it's the change of pace from our so called summer to our very definite winter (and they are saying we can expect snow again this year so it's going to be a cold one).

I usually do eat a bit more and I eat warming foods. Homemade soup is a great way to fill up and warm up! Just keep it healthy but eat a little more - there's no need to go hungry!

PS, I don't know where you are based but the weather is particularly rubbish where I am today!

I think it's something you get over with time.

Although I didn't feel THAT hungry when I first started cutting back.

I agree with Steve,

One has to flesh out what works for them in terms of meal freequency, hunger, etc.

For me, I employ the South Beach program because I am a posterchild for insulin rebound. If I eat something loaded with simple carbs, I get INSANE hunger about an hour or so later. It's crazy.

I cut my calories down to about 1800/ day with my diet, and the first week was pretty rough. I would take walks, watch TV, anything to pass the cravings. It's kind of crazy, but they say that cravings last only minutes, so once you get through them, you are good for a bit anyway.

On the low-carb diet, eating only complex carbs like legumes and high in dietary fiber items, I feel much more satisfied for a longer period of time. I have been eating this way for 3 months now, and have had relatively little discomfort, I have lost over 35 pounds or about 16% of my body mass doing this diet. hang in there, check out some options for eating and give them each a few days! Once you find something that works, coast from there :).... keep it up!

Oh, and one "tip" that I have been employing since I was a kid, drink a few glasses (chug) of room temp water when you are really hungry. It works for me once in a while. Not a catch all, but helps!

hi guys thank yo for the advice i will try and stick it out i have three meals a day but i do have a small snack inbetween each meal(usully fruit) x

Do you know how many calories you're consuming per day? Maybe your intake is lower than necessary?

Do you know how many grams of protein you're consuming per day? It's the most satiating nutrient, so if it's low, bringing it up will blunt hunger.

Are you eating adequate fiber? It slows digestion and promotes satiety.

Are you eating fruit? The fiber in it is good (see above) but the fructose also does some "fancy" things in your liver in terms of satiety.

Are you eating servings of veggies? The fiber in this also helps plus, it's very calorie-sparse and nutrient-dense. Stretching the stomach is a signal to the brain that you're full also, so using calorie-sparse foods to do it helps out quite a bit!

Just some general thoughts.

Awesome info!

i seem to get really hungry before bed and i cant say no to a bowl of cereal or a salad sandwich. i dunno if its putting my diet off or what, but like steve said maybe my body needs more food.

I tend to get hungry after dinner as well.... but actually I'm not really hungry I find myself just wanting something to munch on while watching TV more than being actually hungry.

If I simply can't say no I chop up some fruit on a plate and munch on it piece by piece.....it makes me feel like I'm getting my munchies when it's only about 100 cal.

Yea, that's pretty common actually. Our culture, for the most part, has lost touch with our true biological hunger signals. We might find ourselves in an environment that triggers the desire to eat... but it's more psychological than anything.

I'll recommend the book, Intuitive Eating. I think you'd like it.

I want to eat all the time too, but don't! You may have a thyroid problem. If you had your three meal or five sm meal for the day. And you are still hungry at bed time, Eat a sm apple or banana or have a cup of milk before going to bed. Sometimes I have a sm cup of orange juice. If you get use to having about 60oz of water a day, this will help fill you up. I drink a 20 oz water or a cup of decaf tea/ coffee about 7:00pm.

You are getting some good advice from these guys.

Good Luck and stay healthy!

Anna
