I agree with Steve,
One has to flesh out what works for them in terms of meal freequency, hunger, etc.
For me, I employ the South Beach program because I am a posterchild for insulin rebound. If I eat something loaded with simple carbs, I get INSANE hunger about an hour or so later. It's crazy.
I cut my calories down to about 1800/ day with my diet, and the first week was pretty rough. I would take walks, watch TV, anything to pass the cravings. It's kind of crazy, but they say that cravings last only minutes, so once you get through them, you are good for a bit anyway.
On the low-carb diet, eating only complex carbs like legumes and high in dietary fiber items, I feel much more satisfied for a longer period of time. I have been eating this way for 3 months now, and have had relatively little discomfort, I have lost over 35 pounds or about 16% of my body mass doing this diet. hang in there, check out some options for eating and give them each a few days! Once you find something that works, coast from there

.... keep it up!
Oh, and one "tip" that I have been employing since I was a kid, drink a few glasses (chug) of room temp water when you are really hungry. It works for me once in a while. Not a catch all, but helps!
