With Diet and exercise, u will c the changes... The problem is sticking with it. That's the hardest part I am dealling with it. I started last week all pumped up. This week, my motivation is gone!... But I am trying to atleast eat right though.... Good luck and just be patient, u will c the difference in time....

i know. i usually stop tryn so hard after a week... have no idea why. I figured coming on here and talking to people would help so im finally givn it a try. good luck to u as well.

dear diary,
today happens to be the beginning of my "just screw it" attitude. i just started and already with some negativity? what the hell is wrong with me? im pushing through, i have to. i dont know what gave me this attitude so early on... could it b stress? *BREATHE!* deep down i know i can do this.

WHAT I WORK OUT WITH!

I PRETTY MUCH USE THE PREMADE SCHEDULE, JUST A FEW ALTERATIONS. I ALSO WALK ONE HOUR EVERY DAY, AS WELL AS DOING EACH VIDEOS TWICE (80mins daily except sat).

Maintenance:*2978 Calories/day
Fat Loss:*2383 Calories/day
Extreme Fat Loss:*2320 Calories/day

i am 21. 5ft2 about 290 give or take i exercise daily now... i wouldn't say too intense... so are those calculations accurate? if so... ive only been taking in 1200-1500 now..more like an average of 1350cal/day. is that good?

i still dont have a scale and truth is im a little scared to get one. lol i think im really going to push myself this next month and then buy one...

anyways i can tell ive lost weight...pants fit better and my bras getting too big, though i dont really like that part. lol

well good luck to myself and every one else.

So... go figure I lost motivation & stopped doing anything about it. I get sick and then everything goes out the window. I feel like I should be punishing myself for being so weak. I don't want to stay fat...so whats my problem?! UGH! Ok... I'm going to try & keep trying until it happens. I do know I need encouragement & that's mostly from my husband...and damn it when he orders out food every single day.

I hate this & myself at times for not being able to pull it together. No, I'm not asking for a pity party. I just need to be able to rant somewhere.

Well... I'm going to try. & I'm going to try and log in everyday for more motivation.

MissApril, actually, if you want true motivation, it is very effective to do
one simple thing. Here it is: make a distinction between your primary goals
and your secondary steps that will help you to accomplish those goals.

...In other words, for example my "primary goal" when I was overweight was
to create a lean, healthy, well-toned body with a low body fat percentage.
This is what was the "most important" thing (primary) that I wanted in the
area of health.

...Now the "secondary steps" were walking on a daily basis, working out with
weights 3 times per week, drinking plenty of water, eating 5 meals per day,
every three hours, making sure that every meal was average and had all the
healthy foods that my body needed to function properly.

...My reality at that time was that I weighed 285 pounds, did not eat health
at all, probably around 5,000 calories per day (at least most days), walked
only to my car, and then to my desk, and after work back to the car, and
then back to my couch. That was my cardio-training for the day.

Anyway, here is what you have to understand to start doing what you have
to do to create permanent fat loss.

Completely understand that reaching your health goal is what is most
important to you, i.e. "PRIMARY," and that in order to accomplish this
you will have to take the "SECONDARY STEPS" in order to reach that
goal in the nearest future.

This means that your focus should be on what you want, to reach your
ideal body weight, and if this is really important you will be able to put up
with some of the uncomfortable things in order to accomplish your goal,
and unfortunately these uncomfortable things are proper nutrition and
regular exercise.

If you choose not to use proper nutrition and exercise, basically you are
making the COMFORT that you feel from not doing this "more important"
than your DESIRE to have a lean, healthy body.

If you actually become aware of this, and simple take it one day at a time,
doing simple things like walking more, and eating more healthy food, and
less unhealthy food, plus drinking water, you will reach your goal in the
nearest future !!!

I'm so glad you came back!! Please post and read stuff on the site, even if you feel rotten and haven't been doing well!

This board is so supportive and the people really care. We all know where you are at and have probably been there ourselves.

Take care of yourself as best you can right now and keep your spirits up. Maybe write a post with some specific, short-term, tiny goals? Realistic stuff. And maybe some food tracking?
Just a few ideas to try, if you want.

(And don't let Alex scare you. He can seem overpowering, but he really means well.)

Hope to "see" you again!

Sincerely,
rox

I actually found Alex's reply very honest, realistic, and helpful. My main problem is making myself expand out of my comfortness (being lazy). If I can do that, I know I can do this. Right now it's hard to eat healthy because neither of our cars are running & the only food we do eat is delivery junk. I'm trying not to eat as much though. As soon as my truck is running again I'm definitely going grocery shopping first thing....and with a premade list so I can try my best to avoid all the extra junk food. So...for the moment I'm trying walking for an hour around the apt, which I did do last night. It's a start! I'm about to walk for an hour now. As well as squats, sit ups, & a couple of other things I was doing before that I do not know the correct term for. :) Okay...as far as today goes I ate 2 slices of pieces (average size), 3 bite sized chicken kickers & 3 small breadsticks. & I'm NOT eating anymore because I feel it was more than plenty considering its delivery junk from Dominos. :(

I am also going to try and get back into the habit of only drinking water, some green tea, small coffee if I feel I need it & milk because I love it! However, I'm going to try and not go overboard with it. Ok...well now to get my big butt up and exercise. Thanks for the cheer up by the way. Every little thing helps!

I went through the same struggles as you, multiple times. I would do great, and feel great about myself and then I would give in to temptation and hate myself and just keep eating to heal the pain, but I was really just causing myself more pain.

I now think of the way I eat as an addiction. I am getting my minor in substance abuse treatment and we learned in class something so pivotal to me:

Pain (or guilt) leads us to make bad choices those bad choices lead us to bad consequences and this causes pain leading us to start the cycle over, this is true in addiction but also over eating or binging.

(Pain (guilt)----> over eating ----> gaining weight (feeling shame) ----> pain (guilt)----> repeat)

Now, I have learned, as many recovering alcoholics have, that each day is a day to work towards what you want. You will never be "cured," you will always have to work at having a positive relationship with food and your body and self image, ALWAYS, but to get there it is sometimes necessary to take baby steps. Feel good each day, if you slip up remember tomorrow is a BRAND NEW DAY. You have the power to make each of your days the way you want them to be.

Miss April, I am really glad that you liked my post. Now, as far as the question
that you had about motivation, it comes from two things, at least non-stop
motivation, NOT will-power energy (there is a huge difference since the
first is permanent and the later runs out quite quickly), anyway, here are
the two things that create non-stop motivation:

#1) Focusing on what you want (primary objective) and...

#2) SIMULTANEOUSLY focusing on where you are at the present moment,
in other words, YOUR CURRENT REALITY!!!

The easiest way to do this is to imagine two large screen TV's in your
imagination, one on top of the other. First imagine the way you want to be
in the future in the top screen, and then as soon as you are visualizing this,
simulataneously start to visualize the way you look now in reality, while
continuing to visualize your "future self."

This might take a little practice, but this is without a doubt the most
powerful technique
that I have found in the last 26 years that actually
creates non-stop motivation and it is what I used to create permanent
fat loss for myself, and what I continue to use daily.

Taking these actions will help you do two things:

#1) create the non-stop motivation that you are looking for

#2) create a list of the best steps that YOU can take to go from where
you are right now to where you want to be when you hit the weight
target that you are currently aiming at!

Miss April, no matter what anyone says, even me, in reality weight loss,
just like almost everything else in life -- is a solo journey -- and to actually
reach your major health goal you will have to discover the weight loss
process that works especially well for YOU.

...true SUCCESS in weight loss, just like in all other things that we want to
accomplish in life is all about CUSTOM-TAILORING the approach that works
for us, personally. There can be NO comparisons here, even though the
mind obviously wants to do this, because that is how we humans are wired.

...by "comparisons" I mean yourself with other people, because the "default"
setting in our mind basically compares everything with everything!!!

...so doing this will require that you raise your awarness, and become really
conscious of everything that is happening in the present moment, this is
without a doubt the secret, and where 95% of your energy should be
focused. This will eventually ALL become a habit, and you will not have to
think about it that much in the future.

...you will reach your ideal body weight, and will simply keep doing the same
things that have helped you to reach your ideal weight, with maybe a few
adjustments, here and there!!!

Obviously this all requires non-stop action, and the willingness to put up with
the pain and discomfort of making mistakes in your weight loss program, at
least until you find that 1% of the actions that produces 99% of the results
for you, this is "sort of" like finding the KEY that unlocks the lock that is
currently not letting you out of the place where you currently have
locked yourself in. But don't let this upset you, instead focus on the present
moment, and use this observation to create the key that will fit that lock.

...if you need help, suggestions, recommendations, just ask, and I will do my
best right here in your diary to give you the answers so that you can always
go back and read them in case your "mind" tries to confuse you, as it will
always try to do when we, human being attempt to live "here and now."

But here is what you have to remember: If you create a single-minded vision
of your future self, and simultaneously observe your current situation by
being completely honest with yourself about your current nutrition and
exercise habits, you will create the non-stop motivation that will help you
to keep going without ever quitting or giving up...

...and it will not matter how many times you will fall off the wagon, as long
as you stand up, dust yourself off, and say "I, Miss April, no matter what
happens will keep moving toward creating my dream body because that is
what I want more than anything else in the world"
-- it will only be a matter
of time that you will arrive at your final destination and have the end-result
that right now is only in your imagination.

As far as your question about exercise, in this forum check out the stickies
and the posts that have a lot of posts and views:

Weight Loss Through Exercise - Weight Loss Forum

...but, imo, you should first focus on walking outside, and start with
20 minutes per day, every day, and then increase by 5 minutes per week,
per session, until you reach 60 minutes per session.

...simply walk as if you are in a hurry somewhere, and walk right before
your next meal, never after!!!

...and if you want to reach your ideal weight (15% body fat) and really have
a "dream body" then I would even recommend trying double-daily cardio
after you reach the 60 minute session once per day.

and as far as nutrition, I would recommend that as your first step take the
food that you are consuming now and simply split it up into four equal meals
and eat them every 4 waking hours, and eat breakfast as soon as possible
after waking up. The first meal is the MOST IMPORTANT, period, if you want
effective "fat loss" never, ever skip breakfast, or any other meals for that
matter, but the first is the most important and should be the largest of the
day, with the last being the smallest, and the other two can be just average.

...do this first, and then in the near future, if you want I will tell you the
way that you can create the perfect meal plan for yourself. This post is
obviously too long already, and there's plenty of information here to help
you take the first important and crucial steps.
