Fat, singel, and I need help

Hi, I would like to say Hi to everyone first, I am 25, and I hate to tell everyone this, but I am just too fat. (268lbs) I am tired of wearing old-fashion stuff, I tried sewing myself some nice things but they still looked like crap on me. I really need to lose weight, I have a few friends, but no male friends. This can't keep going on. I hope to get some support here and chat with other people who have the same problem as me. That is why I joined this forum.

Welcome to the forum. All the help and support you need is here. Take some time to read the stickies and then hit us with some questions. Good Luck :)

Welcome to the forum, glad to have you on board. Weight loss is a lifestyle change then just a diet program, fyi. Once you've got it figured out and work hard at it, it becomes very addicting as you see / feel results weeks after weeks and surprise yourself with photo progress taken every week or month. It's just amazing how well the body works once you kick start it properly with a CLEAN diet and proper excercise.

Welcome, good choice to join this site, I have learned alot and have put it into my new lifestyle, never give up :)

talk about what you like and don't like and then we, as a group, have alot to offer.

Welcome to the forum.

I'm very happy that you decided to take this first step. I wouldn't recommend you do anything else before you stop over to . This site may seem overwelming at first glance but, go straight to the START HERE link on the left top of the page. Once you read this, go to crossfit o-zone. Crossfit is a general strength and condtitioning program that is scalable for anyone(scroll down the front page and you may see someone training that was born with no arms and legs; after seeing this I say to myself I have absolutly no excuses). There is a great forum where you will get a ton of real help. Crossfit has a great community(we joke about drinking koolaid since we are such a tight knit group, we have be referred to as a cult). Real nutrition with provided real research from real athlete doctors and black box coaches( look for Rob and Garret in nutrition). Real fun stuff from stuff that really works. Guess what, it's all free and open sourced. Crossfit ozone is where you will want to start if you haven't done a whole lot of excercise ever or have ben sentient for many many years. If you want you can find a crossfit gym close by and get even better results(Those guys charge). We don't judge and we do turn away anyone as long as they are willing to put in some work. Please check it out.
I wish you good luck in whatever path you choose and I would definitely like some feedback. I'm deployed right now so all I do is work and train would love to hear from you periodically. Oh, all my advice is free too. I'll PM you my email If you like. Just let me know.

Looks straight forward and to the point, to me. Obviously you haven't been over to crossfit.

Rest assured, my fellow brotha, FF, doesn't need to: His endurance and strength are legendary, and they tend to write books about it.

Crossfit, couldn't handle the brotha

Cause' he ROCK like dat'

Every 3rd post is promoting a web sit, by you. Let's not use this fine and respected site for a medium of promotion without permission from those that can give it.

Thanks!

Best wishes to all!

Shoes,

Jump right in - no one will mock you for being heavy. Many if not most of the current fit members on this forum were overweight and/or out of shape when they joined this forum, including myself. I have lost 24# over the last 2 years and completed 3 triathlons after having open heart surgery in April.:).

By the way, are you male or female?

THANKS, you guys are GREAT. I am glad I found this forum. I am a female (but one guy I work with, is a clothes freak, and he does sew alot, and he does sew good) I am trying to find a good start on losing weight, and keeping it off forever. I know that just a diet won't cut it, I will have to exercise too. I am sure I will get myself together, esp with your support.

I'm just giving people direction. You can't always do that in one post. Sometimes it's easier to point to another website. The biggest thing I direct to is starting strength and that's in a sticky over in weightlifting. Doesn't mean people won't still post to this forum if they venture someplace else. I don't know FF and I'm sure he's amazing but this thread isn't about him. I mean no disrespect to this forum or to FF. I'm not selling anything or give negative comments about this forum. This isn't the only place to get information from. I've trained people and I train: instead of folks sorting through the crap like I have, I'm giving solid direction. She doesn't have to follow. I didn't see any real direction posted before me except eat clean. Clean for me may be different than clean for you. I just gave her some solid info to read through. Me, myself, I've gone from being very overweight, to being a little fit, to joining the sevice, to becoming a little more fit, to becoming a trainer and getting more than expected results in my trainees and in myself. We all give advice in different ways. Mine may or may not be better than yours. I'm just trying to show people that there's more than just bodybuilding, weightlifting and running out there. More than one sticky directs to another website or book; is that evil? There just happens to be a lady with a video posted at crossfit ozone that was close to 300lbs. She's closer to 200 now.

I'm always looking for new training methods to contrast and compare with my own. I would love to see stats on FF and see how he trains and eats. Has he always been athletic? Was he a normal joe and now he has a 400lbs squat, a bodyweight snatch, a 1 min 400 and runs marathons? Calling people mongrels and turds is all fine and dandy, but it doesn't help anyone loose weight or add 20lbs to there deadlift.

Truth be known, I'm a loyal crossfitter and coach Rip(starting strength) disciple. They tell us to venture out, And I do. That's why I'm here. If my advice is wrong, prove it. Teach me something. Please. So far all I've read is from people that are fustrated that they're guns are too small. Folks that want to get big but they're 130lbs. I give them all solid advice. No BS. No secret powder. I just preach hard work. That's it.

I think the most important thing you should realize is that weight loss, especially for the amount you're probably looking at (I was in your position about 5 years ago), is a process. It's not something that you can simply decide "I'm going to be healthy now" and then you magically get into shape when you want.

You've probably heard the saying "Money doesn't make the man, the man makes the money". Well, the same principals apply to fitness. You will never keep your weight off until you've changed who you are and how you think about your fitness. We've all heard that weightloss is a lifestyle change, but not as many of us realize that your lifestyle is a reflection of who you are, and that in order to change your lifestyle, you have to be willing to work to change yourself.

It's easy to spend 5 minutes introducing yourself on a forum saying that you want to lose weight. Spending an hour every day doing exhausting exercise is a whole other challenge.

Ultimately, your success depends on you, and only you. We can offer support, we can offer advice, but ultimately, you're going to have to be the one left covered in sweat and out of breath.

Your body adapts to its lifestyle. It grows to meet the demands of its owner. You demands have probably been somewhere along the lines of "process large amounts of food, and don't move much". As a result your stomach will have adapted to hold more, it's also probable that your lungs and heart have grown to a larger than average size to compensate for the volume of your body. Your muscles will be weaker and stiffer, and your body will be less accustomed to withstanding and repairing damage. Most importantly, your brain has adapted to your body size. Hormone changes and neurochemistry are all going to be tempting you back into your old ways.

I'm not trying to discourage you, I just think that you should be prepared for what to expect, and that you should know that the rough patches you run into along the way may be hard, but if you just keep doing what you're doing and adapting yourself to those new demands, then eventually it will seem as natural to you as any athlete and you wont have those rough patches.

After losing close to 100lbs, I can say that being overweight is like being physically ill 24/7. Any life you have now will improve 10-fold once you've lost that weight. Even little things you never expected to change. Your mood, your philosophies, your outlooks and perspectives, your values, and you may even find a new limit to how much you're able to enjoy yourself.

I'm quite certain that this will be one of the most significant life changes you ever make, and that once you achieve your weight you'll feel so much better in every aspect, you'll wonder how you ever managed at your old weight for that long.

Being single isn't just a side effect of your weight remember. While I'll admit that it does (unfortunately) impact how people respond to you greatly, there are other aspects that people look for. Furthermore you have to be putting yourself in the right places at the right times to meet people. While losing weight will probably help you to meet someone, you have to wonder what type of person would only meet you if you were thin.

If you're having difficulties now, it could just be the places you're going to. Consider taking up hobbies to learn a new skill. Sign up for a class where you can meet people also learning these skills and establish initial common ground around that. Once you've lost weight, you may also find new interests you would have been apprehensive about pursuing, giving you a much broader field of options to work with. You may not be aware of this, but subconsciously your personality is responding to your weight. You may not be as outgoing, you may not be able to let loose as easily, and your body language may be focusing on hiding your weight rather than social expression and communication of interest. This will also affect how people are going to respond to you. This isn't a definite occurence for overweight people, it depends how self conscious you are I guess. I'm just saying, just because you're single, don't think it's because you're ugly or anything like that, there's many factors which can contribute to it, and they aren't necessarily voluntary or at fault of your own.

Having the sense and willpower to overthrow your habits and lose your weight shows a lot of good qualities in who you are that I'm sure many men would take notice of. I think the least attractive thing a person can do is sit back as a victim of their weight and simply resolve "it's who I am, I know I'm too stubborn to change my ways, I like food too much. I was just meant to be fat". Whether you successfully lose this weight on this try or not, the important thing is that you recognized how much it was hurting your life, and you made the attempt to fix it. Even if it doesn't work this time, you'll have the experience, and you'll have the right mindset to take it that much more seriously and work that much harder at it again. Remember, if you fail, or slip up, it's not your fault, it's just your body trying to maintain the lifestyle that kept it alive all that time. The only way to defeat this is to keep forcing a change.

Just like quitting cigarettes. You didn't lose the cravings because you decided to quit, you lose the cravings because you resisted the cravings long enough to give your body time to adapt back to working normally without the nicotine.

um..... it seemed like you saw us get new person and you offered nothing but directions to another site. SO- i responded. Being diplomatic is not something I care about. Being polite and all that I am not into. I am an athlete. An extreme athlete, and I called you exactly what you appeared to me to be at that moment in time.

Does that make me judgmental- then judgemental i will be. i am not running for president or anythign else.

SO- love me or leave me beeeeyatches! Worship me, or drag me thru the dirt!

I am not tryin to attract anyone because my motive is one thing!

To continue to get better conditioned, and to help another along the way if i can.... You ahve a website you are promoting i don't!

OH- and I just rode over 7 hours on a bike in 80 plus degrees, so i am a bit wound up! I will be an ironman 140.6 in 40 days. i ran a marathon 2 weeks ago in 4:03, and I weight 178 lbs, and i used to weight 240- SO kiss my ash!

how about you tell us all about you; or do we have to go to YOUR WEBSITE!

yer a slug who is treading in our turf to promote your own designs!

oh- and I pad all of my comments with respect to you, and you right to do whatever you want!

I LOVE YOU!

PLEASE LOVE ME TOO!

Wow! An endurance guy! Damn, sweat daily! Great advice. I guess I'm out of my league here. I'll go on back to my website. Love you,too.:hug2:

You guys are something else. This is really a cute forum. Anyway, I have been reading alot of the other posts, I still don't know how to start losing weight. First a few facts about me. I live alone (with my dog) I don't have that many REAL friends. Could be one of the reasons why I have gained so much weight, sitting in front of the TV eating chips at night. I work full time in a home for disabled children, they love me for what I am. It is a nice job and I can take my dog with me. Otherwise I don't do much. How did you guys start? Would like to know !!!!

You already started by coming here :D

We gotcha...there is enough info on this forum to make anyones brain explode! lol

When I first joined I was told to read all that I could and was directed to the stickies in the nutrition, weight loss and weight lifting sections of the forum. After this you can try to make your own nutritional plan and workout regimen, post it, then receive input from us and we will help you tailor it according to your goals.

Welcome to the site!
