Hello,
I'll try to keep this short but I do feel my story is somewhat motivational and important for me to get it out.
I am 24 years old, have Crohn's disease since 17, incurable inflammatory bowel disease. Well last month I was hospitalized for 2 weeks in two different hospitals. Transferred from my local hospital to Univ. of Chicago an hour away. I almost died, was facing surgery. It was THE toughest fight of my life. Due to a clear liquid diet I had lost 20 lbs over the 2 weeks time and by the time I got out my muscles are so weak I can't bend over and get back up without falling forward a bit. My family was only able to visit me in Chicago one day of the 7-8 I was there. It was difficult. My eyes opened once I saw everything I've been through. I realized dreams and goals that I want, and I survived this horrible experience - I CAN achieve my goals.
I want to lose weight to be fit...to be healthy and strong. I don't just want it for aestethic purposes. It's much more important to me to be strong and healthy.
I weigh 150 at 5'6" and while thats not bad - I have a lot of fat.
Yesterday I ordered Insanity. I know...I know. Pretty extreme to take on as I feel like a beginner in this journey. But I love to run and was running every other day until I got hospitalized. I have a 4 year old, and feel that a gym membership for me what be a set up for failure as it has been in the past.
I work 2nd shifts (75% sit down job) and weekends. So I watch my son during the day, work odd hours and just feel insanity and my personal love of being outdoors will be a better choice for me than a gym.
So: Two major changes that will be difficult for one obviously the daily insanity workouts. Second and just as hard for me - will be changing my eating ways. Like right now, at work - I eat the worst when I am here. I try to plan it out, bring healthy dinner some healthy, some unhealthy snacks....and still I find myself pigging out on the snacks/pastries in breakroom. AHHH!!!
healthy eating will probably be HARDer for me than insanity. I need to drink more WATER, not diet coke. I need to eat healthier everything - mainly snacking. Because I have to eat 3 meals and snacks in between.....I find myself snacking horribly.

Anyone have any similar job situation please get in touch. And I'd appreciate any support as I will return it!!!

Hi and Welcome!

Hope you have gotten a little bit of you strength back, as the Insanity workouts do require some core strenght.
Been doing Insanity as well for the past weeks and almost completed my first "tour" of it (little more then over a week to go). Love it, sure you will too :)

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!
And keep away from that breakroom ;)
Tip for the snack's: I use dried fruit bars for snacking...

Welcome to the forum.

I would have thought that the Insanity workouts would be too arduous in your stage of recovery. You have to remember that you have been very ill very recently. It is always a good idea to run exercise plans by your doctor for a while to make sure that you are not planning on overdoing things... Walking is an excellent form of exercise and is something that can be done quite quickly in a recovery process - so I am sure that there will be forms of exercise that you would be allowed to do which would be beneficial for you.

I have heard positive reports about Insanity - so am sure that you will enjoy it when the doctor thinks that the time is right.

As far as snacks go - I actually think that fresh fruit would serve you better than dried fruit. Healthy things carry calories and these need to be considered... There is actually a lot of calories in those little bags of dried fruit and nuts...

Fresh fruit is more filling for the amount of calories... If you imagine a bunch of 50 grapes gives you quite a pile of grapes. 50 raisins contains the same amount of calories - since it is 50 grapes with the water dried out of them - but it looks and feels like much less food that you are getting for the calories.
