Extreme muscle soreness: avoid or push through?

I have been doing a variaton of the 'art of waterbury' workout, and its been my first time for many of these compound lifts. Well, after monday's 'good mornings' and wednesdays squats, my quads and hams are KILLING me. I've been drinking a lot of water and eating a lot of protein, but, man its really hard to walk. Today is supposed to be power cleans and barbell hack squats. I don't know if I should let my legs recover and replace them with a upper-body only exercise, or just bite the bullet and push through them with lighter weight?

Any thoughts?

Not to sound like a hard ass but i lift through the soreness b/c 9 times out of 10 after a few sets the soreness goes away. my coach says " oh ur sore, well only one way to make that go away,!"lift

It sounds like you are dealing with DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness). If that is the case and there is nothing more serious than that, you can exercise on 1 day's rest. So, you're ready to go now.

I found when I first started doing hard lifts my quads and hams (not really anything else) absolutely KILLED. I have never felt so much soreness, but after a few workouts it stopped being any kind of a problem, just wasn't used to that heavy of strain. Just keep going for a while and see if it improves (it should)
