Exercising and not loosing the fat. Help me!

I am 29 year old female, weight: 142, heigh: 5,5. I have wanted to loose 10 to 12 pounds for about 2 years. I finally got myself to exercice more (I hate sports) last fall and started to train in a gym, which I had never done before. For 5 months, I have been doing 30 minute cardio (135-155 heart rate) plus some weight lifting, at least 4 times a week (up to 5-6 times/week) and maybe lost about 5 pounds. I don't eat a lot, try to cut on the carbs and eat more vegetables, trying to have them with every meal (lunch and dinner). I don't eat between meals and try to cut on sugar (I have a sweet toot). I have a no-sugar muffin for breakfast and hardly eat desserts anymore.

What am I doing wrong? Everybody told me that exercising is the key to weightloss but it doesn't seem to work for me. When I started working out in early september 2004 (then planed I would go 3 times/week, 20 minutes cardio + some weight lifting), my goal was to loose 10 to 12 pounds before year 2005. Gym trainer told me it was realistic. I am doing more cardio, eat right, and not losing the fat. Am close to give up on training, thinking it is no use for me.

Please help me!!!

Hi, Im no expert but sense i changed my diet to loose weight ive done alot of research. It looks like maybe your diet isnt as good as you think it is possibly, For your age you should be eating no more then 2,000 to 2,200 Calories and your fat intake should be 0.4 of your body weight so you should have no more then 56.8 and i think its 10% of your calories for your saturated fat a day. Make sure you write everything down and dont eat any chips, pizza or pop anything high in fat. Then combine that with your cardio and you should start loosing.

by the way ive lost about 6 pounds in a week and a day doing this so dont give up just tightin up your diet and loose the sweets even though there good you wont even crave them after like a week or 2 :)

Yeah, well, I don't eat sweets, no pizza, no chips, no beer, no pops. I am confused. According to some people, I should eat more, according to other, I should eat less. I really don't see where I could cut off on food. If I cut, I'll have to hardly noty eat at all.

Its not about eating more or eating less its what you eat, you half to limit your calories and fat and you half to burn more calories then you consuming. Until you start counting your calories and fat and reading food labels you'll probably never loose. You cant just go by what you think is ok you half to write down everything you eat and keep adding it up. Good luck

If your eating too little, you may have entered starvation mode.

by the way, check your PMs unless you get my message before you read this.

You say you're not eating a lot - that is probably what is wrong. If you don't eat enough, the body goes into starvation mode and holds onto all the fat it can.
Post your meals and we can help you straighten them out.

And trade in the SF muffin for some oatmeal!

Start eating in ratio: 40% protein, 20% fat, 40% carbohydrates. Also, start keeping a daily diary of what you eat, might help you see where you do wrong.
Try do some variety in your training and if you will gain more muslce mass, you will consume more calories, even when you sleep, for the simple fact that your muscles are there. With more cardio youre not gonna step ahead. Give up for a while on aerobics and try more lifting weights. Add some iso whey protein. Might give you a qualitative leap. And drink some water too.
In other words, if you eat enough callories daily, you need to 'shock' your body so that you can go on losing fat, w/ these stratagies. But if you don't, first you need to put your nutrition in order and wait for some results.
