Exercise with mobility problems?

Hi

I was wondering if anybody could help me with my problem baisicly I need some advice and help on the subject of exercise (especially cardio) for people with mobility problems.
I'm a 23 year old woman with no other health problems but had an accident last year which left me with problems with my left knee and now walk with a cane. Movement as simple as walking is a problem for me as the flexing of the leg and moving the knee causes extreme pain.
Well simply put I need to lose weight and want to get fitter. Are there any exercises especially cardio workouts that i could do that would not include movement of the knee?
Running, walking, and bikes are all out as they require movement of the leg and i'm at a loss at what I could do. The lack of exercise (and the resultant weight gain) is really getting me down and I really hope you guys can help me out here

Thanks in advance for any help and advice

would swimming be bad? I'm not really sure but it's good cardio and leg movement varies per stroke but can be quite little

Almost any form of upper body cardio may help, provided your accident hasn't affected your back as well.

i too would think swimming would work. the legs don't flex when kicking during crawlstroke and back stroke. butterfly would not work.
