Exercise side effects?

I've been working out for 6-7 months now, and am happy with the results. Although I haven't lost any weight lately, but waist is down 6", and I feel better and stronger. I work out 3 times a week, 1 hour per session, a mix of cardio, yoga, and weight training. I also do 1/2 to 1 hour cardio such as biking or rowing at least twice a week. I'm getting my heart rate up pretty high for my age (55)- 145 is fairly common, and 160 or so when kick boxing. The doctor is happy with my results as well. I've noticed 3 odd side effects that I wouldn't have expected"
1) Very minor- I break out on my chest and stomach- small red zits. Never had that before, even if sweating profusely.
2) My appetite is diminishing. I eat about 1900 calories a day. According to the BMR formula, I should be up around 2800. Tonight I didn't even finish dinner- just felt full. Since working with weights, I stopped losing weight, and have even gained a few pounds (not what I had in mind).
3) My sex drive (don't laugh) has diminished as well. At 55, it's not a big deal, and my wife is rarely into it anymore, but I would have thought being fit and having more energy would have the opposite effect. I mentioned it to my doctor, and he immediately trotted out Viagra and Cialis, but I don't need those- everything functions fine when called upon. I just don't find I think about it much anymore.

On the plus side- I feel great, and have lots of energy. I sleep better, too. Anyone know why I'm seeing any or all of these side effects?

Hi there,
Obviously you're aware of the good side effects of exercise, there are too many to list, increased quality of life, stronger bones, healthier heart, increased ease in day to day activities and the list could go on.
I think it might be best to just ask your doctor about your 'odd' side effects.

I did notice you saying you had not really lost any weight, many people forget that weight measurement is not the only way to track your progress. You said you had been doing some weights, so you have probably been slightly increasing your muscle mass and muscle weighs more than fat, so that could be a reason why you have not seen any weight loss as such. You should use some other factors, measure your girths and skin folds, this will give you a much clearer indication.
=)
