Exercise confusion?

I am really confused about exercise right now. I've always been a cardio queen, and it's kept the weight off. However, as I'm getting older, it's not quite doing the whole trick. Everyone's telling me that I'm only working my heart and working too hard to burn fat. I'm also trying to add strength training, but don't know how to get started. Any suggestions?

Once you obtain clearance from your doctor, I would suggest that you spend the first two weeks trying to learn as many exercises as possible. Try to find 3 or 4 exercises (using free weights, machines or body weight) for each body major muscle.

Choose the 1 exercise you like best from each muscle group and use these exercises to create a total body workout.

At this point, the idea is to focus on proper form and technique. If you are a gym member then don’t be shy to ask questions to a qualified individual (you are paying your monthly fees, it is there job to provide a safe and effective workout).

A few quick notes:

You should have between 5 – 10 exercises to start with

2 – 3 sets of each exercise would probably be a good starting point

Intensity should be light to moderate

Try to end each session with an aerobic activity

Make the proper adjustments to meet your current fitness level and needs

Have fun with it

Hope this helps

you may also want to look at your diet and see if there are some areas that could use some minor adjustments.
