Exercise and the Immune System

The past few weeks I've really been pushing myself to get out there and exercise. I've been doing a lot that my body wasn't used to, it was in general just a lot for me to handle. Most nights I was left terribly exhausted, and almost immobile.

But then my mother caught a flu. She recovered in 2 or 3 days, but now I have it and haven't been able to fully recover 10 days later.

Is it possible that I was over-exerting myself with the exercise, and my immune system suffered because of that carelessness?

It is possible, but as your body becomes conditioned to your new exercise routine it will help you not get sick, or at least not as sick. I have been healthier over the last 4 months than at anyother time in my life.

Yes, it is possible. I'm glad Coffeebro has had good luck but exercise has not helped me with illness at all. Its been pretty bad actually. That being said, recovering from the flu in 2-3 days seems insane to me. I've never known anyone to get over it that quickly.

Every year I used to come down with a horrific case of bronchitis that hung on for months... and eventually let go... last year - I had a very healthy winter and not one illness -whcih I attributed to healthy eating, lots of water and exercise.

Nothing has changed this year - except that since January, I'm on cold number 3 and cant seem to shake it - eating habits, water habits and exercise habits are all the same -well i'm probably exercisin more... and aside from germ infested people who go to the gym and spread their germs (i've opted to stay out this past week) Nothing really has changed.. .though my stress levels have been thru the roof since late last year and can't escape it.

I don't attribute my illnesses to eatiing/water/exercise but instead to my body kicking my ass because of stress... this to oshall pass and if there is any justice in the world -I'll get hit by a speeding bus...

-I'll get hit by a speeding bus...

Apparently hang around the Chinatown el station. Odds increase- although that was a truck....

I have had my most healthy few months ever. I had one cold in 4 months and shook it off in a week as opposed to my usual 3-6 months. I attribute that to all the changes I made, not just one.
I feel it varies from person to person though since my wife has been fighting off a cold for a month now and is exercising moderately and eating well.

Bottom line is I do not know, but I have gotten better overall.

Not sure why I posted with a point that weak....
