Exercise and Supplement Research

Hi everyone,

I've been working with a research team at Touro University for the last year and we're doing some pretty cool research on current exercise and supplement-use trends. We are going to stop collecting data pretty soon (we've been doing this for months now!), but I thought some people here may be interested in checking it out.

If you want, the link is:

Take a look and let me know if you have any questions of feedback. (This is something we hope to repeat every few years, so any feedback on ways we can improve the current survey are welcome!)

Thanks,
Mike

With the survey, we are hoping to gather information about people's:

1. Exercise habits
2. Supplement use
3. Drug use (performance-enhancing and otherwise)
4. General health precautions the person takes
5. Psychiatric traits
6. Demographics

The survey becomes personalized, so you only go to certain sections if you answer in that fashion. In the end, we're trying to do two things:

1. Publish up-to-date information about what supplements people use, how much they exercise, etc.
2. Find trends between all the variables above and see how answers in a certain area may affect another

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Thanks,
Mike

We actually just got our first publication accepted into the JMIR. This first study is just about the way we collected data (using internet discussion boards), so it's not interesting in terms of revealing information about exercise habits, etc.

Our first two bigger papers will be about performance enhancing drug use in females and about performance enhancing drug use in bodybuilders. We submitted everything to our statistics guy, so we are just waiting on him to tell us how the numbers turn out at this point.

The process is taking a long time, but I'll be back once we have everything!
