Excercising...is it too much??

For the longest time i ran 1 mile and then i worked myself up to 2 miles then when my leg started to bother me i stopped completly and gained 10 pounds back...so then about 1 month ago i started walking 2 miles every night. Last week i started walking 2 miles and running a half of a mile. Now tonight i did 1 mile walking, half of a mile running, and 2 miles on my bike...and it was not flat land all up hill.....So is what i did tonight too much. Am i over doing it. please let me know?

*None of you guys that always say i ask the same thing can say it about this because i have never asked about this.....

~Thanks
Mandy

Well you did the right thing... when or if it hurts, stop doing it... and no i dont think what you did was too much... if your leg hurts when you run try some other type of activity, swimming for example is great for people with injuries, unless its a shoulder... biking is better then running, or if you go to a gym try the eliptical machine, its a great low impact workout! good luck!

maybe you should talk to a doctor about your leg as well.

So instead of running do you think i could do like 3 miles on my bike and 2 miles walking and just skip running would that be okay??? Because i think i wouldnt be as tired as i am right now i mean i am exhausted

Being tired is good but being hurt is very very bad! I would do more bike and less running... if you feel you need to run then do so, i just think you can burn calories in other ways if that is your goal.

don't just go by distance. For example in 30 minutes I can bike about 4 miles, while obviously walking or running that much would take much (much) longer and a lot more work. Just break your workout time in half or thirds (if you want to do something else). Say you have 1hr to bike and walk, then you can walk for 15 minutes as a warm up, bike for 30 for the burning, and take another 15 minutes to cool down. Though that only works if your in the gym because you can just hop on a bike or a tred-mill in a few seconds.

But yes instead of running you can bike. Though you may need an extra mile or two to get the same workout as running.

I think i can do much much much more biking than i can running. I mean i do have time to do an hour of biking almost everyday because its summer..And ill keep walking my 2 miles..like before i do my biking i will walk 15 minutes like Servo Said then bike all i want to bike and then finish up 15 more minutes...Now doing this about 5-6 days and if i keep my calorie limit under 1400 what it has been could i lose about a lil over 1 pound in a week. I mean i know weight dont matter i just want to look slim if you know what i mean.

Hey Mandy,

I would recommend trying a different angle on your cardio training. Cut your sessions down to 20-25 minutes of HIIT training (High Intensity Interval Training). This is an incredible way to burn major calories and really shock your system into burning a ton of body fat.

Here is a great article I found about incorporating HIIT training into your overall routine:

I understand where you are coming from but pain is pain is pain... increasing the intensity might make it worse. true you will be doing it for a shorter time period but the fact is higher intensity would mean more stress on the legs and that is what we are trying to prevent...

Holy crap yes today i did 3 miles on my bike and walked 2 and then had to go to work and work my butt off tonight for 5 hours im soo tired...it is unbelieveable...let me tell you i think today i have burned ALOT of calories

*Oh and i have a question if i do sit ups or crunches will that help make my stomach go away i know u cant do certain spots but excercising and then doing them would it be like something faster to get ride of my stomach thats the only part that is fatty...i hate having my stomach stick out. If i do sit ups it wont make my stomach buldge out will it becuase im a lil chubby at the belly.

And im starting to get down on myself i mean i was getting happy i was losing weight but im not noticing it yet...and im tired of looking chubby and i always feel fat but i konw im not and i work out almost every day like 6 days a week...

ok ok first... calm down... youre doing great!! keep up the good work! you will see those pounds fly off soon enough!! as for your stomach... sit-ups will make your stomach muscles tighers yes but will not help you burn the fat you need to burn to lose your belly... spot reduction is not possible so you need to lose total body fat so you can begin to lose your tummy... also, you wont like to hear this, fat around the mid-section is usually the hardest and last fat you lose because that is where the body stores its fat reserves... near the center of the body in case of amputation or something to that effect. that is why you dont have really fat hands or feet but youll have a tummy...

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!

Thanks....i apperciate it...i wont be able to do my usual workouts like i usually do in the day time becuase on Monday im going to Ocean City but i will get a work out in the Ocean and when i walk the boardwalk at night....Now can i eat Crab Legs when im down there i dont know if they are good for you or not

Crab is good for you the butter sauce not so much... but if its vacation have at it! its your time to enjoy life not worry about a few extra pounds youre carrying around... sae that worrying for when youre at home getting ripped for your next vacation!! its toughest in the winter because all you want to do is eat and sleep... but think of your up coming vacation and what you want to look like and youll be motivated again!!
