So I'm not sure how much I'm supposed to tell on the first post, but I'll give it a go: My decision to lose weight just made sense, I didn't want to feel like crap any more, and I want to feel great about the body I'm in! You only get one after all. I'd been a little heavy in middle school and high school (not enough to truly bother me), but the real trouble started in college. I gained around 37 lbs in my FIRST semester, yikes! I knew that girls who measure 5'2" weren't supposed to be 187 lbs. That was about 3 1/2 years ago; I seriously yo-yo'd for awhile before losing the healthy way. The changes in my diet have made the biggest difference, and I finally found ways to enjoy exercise intsead of treating it like a chore. So far so good.
Exercise: 6 days a week. I have a kickboxing class I do three times a week (it's not cardio kickboxing, we actually have gloves and punch/kick punching bags, SO fun), an aerobics class (twice per week) and a Walk Off Weight and Stress class (twice per week) (that's basically walking around the track, but I jog!). I take the bus instead of driving(no car :[), which forces me to walk quite a bit more than I would if I drove but I don't mind. I'm finding the more I exercise the more energy I have, and the easier it is to sleep at night. Sometimes I don't always make it to every workout, but as long as exercise AT LEAST 5 times a week, I have a clear conscience.
Diet: I spread 1200-1300 calories throughout the day with 4 small meals. I have a soy protein powder to make a shake for breakfast, because I usually don't have enough time to make a full meal. Protein is most especially important to me since my diet is basically vegetarian(I try to consume about 45 g of protein/day). Eggs, lots of raw fruits and veggies, whole wheat sandwich thins(instead of full slices of bread), almond milk, soy veggie burgers, 100 calorie pop bags of popcorn (for a snack) and cliff bars.. I rarely go out to eat (I can barely afford to!) but when I do I try my best to be health conscious about what I'm getting. I DO treat myself every once in awhile so I don't go crazy and binge! For example, I friggin love dark chocolate an almonds(a cup of three pieces from See's Candies is like 87 cents or something). I never drink soda, juice, energy drinks or coffee, but I LOVE tea (Jasmine Fancy from Peet's Coffee with a little soy milk/honey is my absolute favorite). I have one of those 32 oz Nalgene bottles, and I try my best to drink two of those a day. I eat on a really tight budget ($35/week), so it's important to me that I stick to that budget.
I'm around 165 lbs right now and my goal weight is 120 lbs, which is a realistic weight for me. I've come a long way in the past 3 1/2 years, but I've still got a ways to go. I just got the ankle/wrist weights that I ordered online, so I'm stoked about incorporating more strength training. Yay!
I started kickboxing in September--it's like $79/month for 8 months. When my 8 months are up I don't
