Evening carbohydrate intake...

Hi

Have been using weight-lifting as part of my fat-loss routine for about 4 months now, since starting back up after a long break I've gone from 235lbs to 194...I've used a GI diet and exercise and so far so good.

I'm down to the awkward last few lbs (about 10 to go) before I start my first ever real attempt at bulking.

My question tonight is about Carb intake before training, being a 9-5 working man I only get to work out in the evenings, normally between 9 and 10pm - ALWAYS after dinner.

A friend of mine thinks a good trick to help shake the last few lbs is to cut out carbohydrates after 5pm, I've read this elsewhere a few times - but I was wondering if anybody could give me any hard fact about the benefits of doing this, and as to whether or not I should keep the carbs with dinner on the nights I work out.

Any advice appreciated.

When people try to lose weight, lowering carbs is always a good idea, especially cutting out carbs during dinner which will inhibit fat loss since your going to go to sleep pretty soon.

But in your case its different, if your going to work out after eat your dinner, then I'd guess you would need some carbs to fuel your workout. And if you cut these carbs out, it will affect your lifting.

How many carbs are you eating at dinner?
Where are these carbs coming from?

Thanks for quick reply - this is just what I was thinking.

My carbs are coming from Boiled potatoes, and occasionally Pasta - apart from that my dinner is always protein-stacked.

Say I have 2 Pork chops, I'll normally throw in some green veggies - along with 3/4 medium potatoes.

On nights when we have Pasta - it's usually white carbonara, ergh, almost pure sugar within 10 minutes of eating.

yea. I don't think your carbs at night will be a big problem, since they will be burned off by your workout anyway.

To lose those extra pounds your just going to have to either eat less, or add in cardio ( or more of it ).

if you are going on a bulk, why bother about the last few pounds.

what are your goals fatloss or hypertrophy.

Fatloss first - but I do want to bulk clean, I don't know my BF% now - but my BMI is just within the 'healthy' zone at 24.8

- Reason I want to lose as much fat as possible is to attempt the 'leanest' bulk possible, I know it's not possible to gain muscle without gaining fat, but I'll try my best to minimise it.
