Errrrr?

I used to think split upper / lower body routines were horrible, and that split routines that put specific muscle groups into certain days were better. For an example "monday - arms, tuesday "back", and so on.

But recently I changed over to a upper / lower body routine, which gave me an extra day off of training. But what I've realized is that I'm getting way better results this way.

Is there any explaination to why one is better than the other? An extra rest day? or are they really just the same, and I'm just training and dieting better?

yea man i know thats what i thought, i used to do the seperate day things, now EVERY routein I see by all the smart people are doing like whole body workouts on mon, wed, and friday, or what you said, its wierd, i guess things change i would like 2 know 2.

More workouts for the muscles. Splits generally give one workout for seven days. FBW give two to three for seven days. This doesnt mean that working out everday would be good, but hitting the muscles more than once per week is good. Also with an upper/lower split, you're usually hitting the muscles two or more times per seven days as well.

Less overtraining and more frequency (sounds confusing right). In an upper/lower you would usually work upper twice a week and lower twice a week, and twice a week for each is pretty good. But also, the muscles that get worked have a good amount of time to rest, and with only four days, you get more rest days in general. Needless to say, but I'm a big fan of upper/lower.
