English student

I guess this is where i introduce myself (its like being at an AA meeting or something).

I'm on this website due to wanting to lose weight (obviously) and not finding any support from any one. I know this is an american site but the lack of english ones is impressive, so was drawn to this one.

I need to lose about 20-30 pounds to be at my ideal height-weight ratio (I'm 5ft2 which is round about 155 cm) and will work hard at this. I just need the support to keep me motivated, and as being a student living away from home at university I'm finding increasingly difficult.

My weight mainly centres around my thighs and stomach so obviously they are my target areas. I would also love to know any tips on cheap (or ideally free) exercise i could embark on that would be fun.

I'll stop rambling now, but yeah thats me!

The good news:

Walking fast is essentially free. So are any number of bodyweight exercises. You can Google, but here's a quick example. A basic everlast speed jump rope is I think $8? Simply picking up something heavy like a sandbag and climbing some stairs with it, then dropping it into a sled with a rope tied to it and pulling that toward you from a distance will give you a better workout than many gym rats ever get. Check out Ross Enamait's site for some great info on both bodyweight exercises and jumping rope.

The bad news:

There's no such thing as spot reduction. Your body fat will come off pretty much where it wants to, subject to genetics. This is not as bad as it sounds, though. A simple reduction in body at will get you where you want to be.

Read lots, then ask some good questions, and you'll do great. Welcome, and best wishes. :)
