embarassed about my butt

Here is my issue:
my left butt is a lot bigger than the right. I first noticed it about a year ago and it has been getting worse, to the point where I am embarrassed and am always trying to hide it. I am small, 5'3 and about 115, so it is kinda obvious. I don't know what to do to either make the right side bigger or the left side smaller so that they match. Should I hire a trainer? What should I do? Are there exercises that would help?
Thanks so much!

Hello and welcome.

First of all, no need to double post.

Second of all, I know it sounds odd, but you may want to rule out any underlying medical issues that might be causing this. If it hasn't always been that way (as in genetically underdeveloped muscle), then something may be causing the change.

If no medical explanation is found, then seeking an experienced personal trainer may not be a bad option.

Sorry for the double post, I just wasn't sure where to put it!

I did ask my doctor and she said it seems like uneven distribution of fat! So I don't really know what to do at this point

Thanks for your input

If the issue is strictly fat depositing itself in an unsightly way, then I'm afraid all you can do is the same thing you do for any fat loss - diet and exercise. There are no exercises that target fat loss in a specific part of the body. There are plenty of good lower body exercises that can aide in muscle development - squats, deadlifts, lunges, etc. However, that will only address any muscle issues, not the fat on top of them.

If you have only noticed this since gaining weight, chances are good that it will go away when you lose weight, so that's something at least.

I wrote this in your other thread:

How old are you? An asymmetry like that can be indicative of a major postural/structural issue, because the muscle shouldn't develop like that. You should have a physical therapist look at you to detect muscle dysfunction or structural/musculoskeletal irregularities: a normal personal trainer would have no idea how to even begin to do that. Obviously, unilateral work would be part of the prescription (along with appropriate stretches, mobility drills and activation drills for the underlying issue), with a 3:1 ratio in volume for weak/small side:strong side (i.e. same amount of weight, but lowered volume for the larger side).

You really should have someone qualified assess what's going on there. If it really is that big of a difference, that can lead to more issues down the road.

Having said that, if your physician thinks that it's an asymetrical fat deposit between sides, that still doesn't rule out something a bit odd. You might want to get a second opinion, again just to rule out anything pathological that might be occurring...fatty deposits or masses can often be signs of an underlying trauma or issue...better to be safe :)

Thanks for your help. I am 26 years old. So, you think something seems unusual and I should find a physical therapist? I really do not know what to do about it anymore :(

i think u definatley need to get a second opinion, if not a third.. i would say maybe even talk to a plastic surgeon, just for their opinion -for what your options are to do and if they see that situation very often. consultations are usually free.

That's definitely unusual...that doesn't necessarily mean that it's something bad, but you should find out why that's happening in order to find a way to stop it from continuing. :)
