my first diary entry, hopefully in 12 months time i will be looking back at this and thinking look how far i have come. :)

I currently weigh 240lbs- thats 17stone. I want to get down to 140lbs in the next 12 months. So thats like roughly 2lbs a week. Which i think is doable. Ive been a vegetarian for nearly 7 years and have been doing trial runs of veganism for the last year. After reading and researching the benefits of a raw vegan diet i am finally ready to commit to it. i understand that this might seem extreme to some people, but it has been a natural progression for me. This is as much about my personal beliefs and identity as it is about weight loss.
I started yesterday and it went really well, and today is going good too. I am having a little bit of a headache, which is definetly the caffine withdrawl. I used to drink 4 cans of coke, and 8 coffees a day!!
So thats my story and im sticking to it!!:D

day 3

day 3. This morning i woke up at 7am, and just couldnt get back asleep, which is strange because normally i have to drag myself out at 8am. I was slightly annoyed because i had no lectures today, and could have slept in til noon if i wanted to.

I had pint of water and an apple at around 8.30 and a kiwi at 11am. Not feeling particularly hungry today. I had a vegetable juice for lunch that had carrots, celery, cucumber and ginger in it.It tasted suprisingly undisgusting. i made way too much so i only drank half and had the rest about an hour ago at 4.30. I might have a small salad later, but im freakishly full to be honest.

Im trying not to eat after 9pm, i know its supposed to be 7, but i dont go to bed til 2am most nights. Overall a pretty good day, maybe this is the calm before the storm, but honestly i thought it would be much harder. :) not that im complaining :D :D :D

as long as you're staying within your calorie range it doesn't matter what time you eat... so don't kill yourself abouot trying to stic toa time frame ...

1. Welcome to journaling. :)

2. Hopefully in your "research" you discovered how important protein supplementation is if you are not going to eat any meat.

3. You can eat however late you want, just as long as you are in a total caloric deficit for the day, it doesn't really matter when you ingest the food.

4. Do you know how many cals you are eating? It looks awfully low.

protein

thanks steve, ur right my calorie intake for today has been pretty low, which is rare believe me!!:D :D raw vegan foods do tend to be low in calories which makes it tough to eat enough. Im going to have a salad tonight, plenty of veggies and raw nuts which should bump it up a bit. Also ive been sitting on my ass all day. :D
Well before i started this all my protein came from nuts, cheese, different types of beans etc. (because i havent eaten meat in 7 years).

As you are probably aware proteins are made from amino acids, of which their is an abundance in raw food (and they are in their most natural nutritious state). As far as i know, as long as i eat plenty of raw vegan foods, i am eliminating the need for one concentrated protein source. Yay no need for meat! :D thanks a mil for ur reply, ill definetly keep what you said in mind.

I do understand proteins. And I know how difficult it is to get ENOUGH of them in when you are a vegetarian. Nuts alone won't suffice. To get enough protein in from nuts will put you way over your caloric limit.

Veggies don't add much, remember, there is a difference between complete and incomplete proteins.

Best of luck to ya.

thanks, thats really interesting. sorry if i sounded a bit off in my reply, protein is one of those things people always use as an attack about vegetarian lifestyles, so i do tend to get defensive. im only going by what i have been told, i did see a nutritionist who basically said i would be fine without the supplement. But maybe a trip back with a diet diary?? maybe thats how i got so fat, all those nuts? :D

Oh, I am not saying that you MUST use a protein supplement. It's just that I have little respect for people who call themselves vegetarians who choose the lifestyle based on "educated" hypotheses on why eating meat is bad for you.

Yet, they don't take the time to educate themselves on WHY protein is crucial to ANYONE, especially those who are attempting to lose weight.

And this post is not directed at you, I am saying in general.

If protein ingestion is not sufficient, your body needs the protein, and it will take it from its only source, your muscles. Not ideal OR healthy IMO.
