Elbow Pains

im 17 When going reps with the dumbells im feeling bits of pain in my elbows right in the joint.....:(

Does this mean that i should stop and rest more?
maybe use less weight?
or spend more time warming up?
maybe even is it just my body coping with the weight on my elbow which it may not be too used too lift often .

Tennis Elbow is a condition when the outer part of the elbow becomes painful and tender, usually as a result of a specific strain, overuse, or a direct bang. Sometimes no specific cause is found. Rest helps, with avoidance of the activities which over use the elbow. This is what I believe it might be...I have the same thing...I could be wrong tho...

Well... First off... What exercises "hurt" you? because you can do many exercises w/ dumbbells....

Tennis elbow is an injury to that lateral epicondyle (outside "side" of your elbow when your palms are facing forward)...
Signs & Symptoms of this usually swelling and point tender touch over that "bump" where described as above...
It is usually cause by rotating your forearm towards the center of the body (like a forearm hit in tennis.. hence "tennis elbow")

If the pain is "in" your elbow it more likely is something else. I could be fatigue if it is a dull pain, but if it's a sharp pain, then it's more of a structural issue.

My advice is....

Continue lifting, but decrease the weight and increase the amount of reps... If it still bothers you, take a break... and make sure even if it hurts or not... ICE!!! for 20 mins after you workout until the pain is completely gone...

Hope that helps,

DeX

I have more or less the same problem, but with much more emphasis in my right elbow. I believe in my case it is a Golfer's elbow, because the pain is "inside" the elbow joint (besides other factors).

I believe there are two factors responsible for my condition:
1. Working much time in a computer with "bad" ergonomic conditions, especially for the mouse.

2. When doing DB Bench Presses and DB Shoulder Presses I think I overstretched... especially in the bench. Dbs let you work in a bigger Range of Montion but be careful... In the Bench, I used to go with DBs in more depth than with the bar (which must stop at the chest). If you do that, you may think Benching with DBs in the same ROM as with the BB, and see if the pain goes way...

ICE helps a lot!

Good Luck!

You actually have something called "Little-Leagues Elbow"... you see it a lot in little kids that play baseball a lot because they try to throw the ball as hard as they can each time. But when I get back from class I'll edit this post and explain a little more:(

TTYL,
