Either I could or I would

Heyy I am Kartik from India.

My weight is 107 kg right now. 3 years back it was 120 Kgs. I have reached the best of 98kgs. but once I leave the gym I start gaining weight. Sad but true.

Just not losing hope :)

Working out is a double edged sword. It helps you lose weight but also allows you to eat more than you should. Try eating an apple right after you work out so that you won't overeat later.

The human body was not made to sit in a chair all day.

We should all be doing some kind of physical activity daily.

Can you provide more details, please?

There are 3 things at your disposal when it comes to fat loss.

(1) Diet

(2) Exercise

(3) Drugs

It is possible to reach you fat loss goals - say 98kg - with any combination of the 3, but some work better than others. 100% drugs can get you there for example but it will produce the most long term side effects. 100% exercise can get you there but if you stop exercising or if you get injured the return to baseline is fast.

I would suggest a ratio of 60% diet, 10% drugs, 30% exercise. Simply because that's what I used to lose 17Lb, 3.6% body fat and over 8inches in less than 30 days.

If you don't want to go to the gym or you are unable then you will have to focus more on diet.. simple.

If you have any questions feel free to ask away and i'll do my best to help :)

Thanks guys for the quick replies.

I used to follow a rigorous schedule by literally deleting any form of sugars including rice and chapati ( a form of bread) but not limited to a cup of cofee a day. But lately I felt weak, fatigued. The nature of my work involves studying and using the PC, sadly sitting on the chair for the whole day. To have an open mind required to be good in studying, I cannot afford to have a fatigued body. Considering this I switched to a morning heavy meal - 6 pcs of brown bread stuffed with mayonnaise (diet) and some veggie. (as Breakfast is the brain food). But this schedluled has not helped me to reduce over the last 2 months.

I take a fruit as my second lunch followed by cappuccino. I hit the gym at around 8 in the late evening, and post workout I take soup or a bowl of cooked veggies.

My question is whether its ok If I continue the same diet or should I switch to something else in the morning. (I am an eggetarian )

Coming to exercise,I follow the alternate brisk walking (1min) and running pattern (2 min) using a treadmill. This goes from 10 - 15 min.

Then I cycle for around 5 - 10 min. Post this I am nicely drained out. If time persists I just do a single weight training (chest) or thighs or shoulders.

-- I am 25 years old 6 feet tall 107 kgs [and gaining :( as I write]

My Second Question is- the Exercise pattern I follow doesnot include weight training and, considering the fact that I have a very loosely skinned body, should I switch to lifting weights by cutting down on the 25 min cardio I follow.

If you want to lose weight you need to switch your diet yes.

The short explanation of the diet I do is..

Don’t Eat White Carbs - This includes bread, rice, pasta, potatoes, chips, cereals etc. Anything white with carbs avoid like the plague. Don’t eat the food just described unless you want to get fatter.

Don’t Drink Calories - The only drink I have is water, I aim for 2 – 3 litres a day. Sometimes ill have a can of diet coke as it is only 330ml, anything over 450ml of diet coke stimulates weight gain due to the aspartame level. No milk, fruit juice, beer, soft drinks or fizzy drinks allowed. I don’t drink wine but you are allowed up to 2 glasses of red wine a night but no more unless its a cheat day.

Don’t Eat Fruit - The quick reason why is because sugar and fructose = fat storage. Exceptions are tomatoes, have as much tomatoes as you like. And avocados if eaten in moderation.

Include 3 Food Groups With Each Meal - There are 3 food groups you have to eat with each meal. Protein, Legumes and Vegetables. Its important to eat legumes for caloric load as you wont be getting calories from carbs.

Have A Cheat Day Once A Week - This is for 2 reasons: 1. To keep your metabolic rate from slowing due to extended caloric restriction. 2. To help make the diet is sustainable. Remember you can have your cake and eat it. Just get the timing right

That’s all the bare basics of how I lost 17Lb 3.6% body fat and over 8 inches in 30 days and continue to lose body fat every day.

If you cut down the cardio and add weight training it will help with fat loss because the basic formula is more muscle = higher metabolic rate. This is why a man’s resting metabolic rate is naturally higher than a woman’s, because men have more muscle. Ladies shouldn’t worry about bulking up by adding resistance/weight training to their exercise regime, all that will happen is your wobbly bits will become more firm and toned. Remember every pound of muscle uses about 6 calories a day to sustain itself while a pound of fat only uses 2 calories.

Hope this helps
