Eclipse+a new guy..

a small dillema,
I recently baught an eclipse elliptical and have been trying to use it to my benifit.. but heres where the problem lies; I'm your average joe, 21, casual smoker (though I've quit its been 5 days now.. yay.. go me), absolutly nothing fitness about my life. Untill now that is!
I baught the machine because I'm too self concious and high anxiety to jog outside let alone join a gym
the problem being I can only do about 3 minutes on the machine and I'm spent! I could do multiple 3 minute sessions in one day.. or is that bad? will things get better as time progresses? it has only been a week since I've dedicated myself to this small physical task but I feel as though 3 minutes isn't doing much for my health in any way though I sweat and get my heart rate up and can feel the "burn" in my thighs.. but it dosn't feel like theres any progress or benifit to 3 small minutes..
hope someone can answer my questions give me a head start on the path to follow
Thanks in advance!

I started using an elliptical 8 years ago. The first day I tried it I could only go a couple of minutes. By the end of the first week I was up to 8 minutes. Now I can go all day long, but I do have a life so I keep it to 48 minutes at an 80-95% of mhr. Stay with it, you will get used to it and ultimately love(?) it.

thanks meganl and midlifecrisis I just needed some kinda feed back or response.. thats exactly what I was looking for
just needed to hear those words from someone else I guess

I'll keep at it.. I've been dedicated so far... I added an extra whole minute today.. hurra.. hehe.
Thanks!

GOOD FOR YOU!! I'm almost to 11 months of not smoking - stick with it, you can do it! Do whatever it takes to keep from lighting up.

I also had a very difficult time starting the elliptical - it was sooo painful, but as others said, it gets easier - I can go up to 30 minutes at level one now. My problem with it is that my feet get numb.

I'm sorry you're self-conscious at the health club - you need a better club! I also have that problem a bit, but found the right place where no one judges and there isn't the "meat market" feel.

Take the various gyms up on their free offers and see if maybe you can find the right place for you and get some expert advice and access to a lot more equipment.

Good luck and keep it up.
