eating too much protein make me gain bodyfat if not working out much ?

hey
im sort of trying to lost body fat and increase muscle ... i know its not one of the things that makes the most sense and many will say how you just cant do both.
but anyways ... if i was not doing much lifting but alot of exercise and intaking alot of protein ... will if not lose weight ? will i gain weight?

if i was doing alot of weightlifting and doing alot of exercise will i still not lose weight ?

i just want to know if i should be taking in so much protein when losing weight is higher priority to me.
i thought protein was good for shedding the bodyfat as well for recuperating/building muscle?
ive been takin alot of it .. but since i dont have enuf weights right now for my bench, i havnt been weightlifting very often ... am i just slowing my process down of trying to lose bodyfat ???

actually that's what happens when anyone undergoes a weight training program ...
