Eating Out

I am working steadily on my weight loss.

One thing I do that might seem odd to some is that I eat my lunch out everyday.

I try to find healthy choices and wonder what others have found.

Wok-Box I had a meal called Dan Dan

Freshii wraps are good and made with brown rice

Applebees has a great salad with chicken and fruit using a balsamic vinegar

Mucho Burrito I get a burrito with veggies, beans, beef, rice, and peppers but no cheese.

You're not. I expected something else as well. That said, I most probably expected something different from what you expected....*lol*

Anyway, back to the original question - I don't eat out. Can't afford it. When I could, I usually got a salad from somewhere, or a small sandwich from Subways.

Here in the US, there is a great trend that is sweeping the nation. Nurtrition fact availablilty.

I am in sales, and travel for work about 2 weeks/ month. I knew early on that it would be tough to eat healthy, and be away from home 3 meals/day for a whole week, 2 times a month!

What I have found, is that it's really important to get the nutrition facts before you eat at a restaurant. For example, I just went to applebees site, and looked at the nutrition facts. Here is an example of the salad:

Apple Walnut Chicken Salad, Regular 1010 calories Half 630.. calories... that's pretty attrocious. I typically eat 400-500 calories for lunch, and snack through the day on healthy snacks.

I have had better luck with sit-down restaurants ordering off of the 'lighter' menu than I have ordering off of the full menu. For me, fullness is important. A half salad with 630 calories will not provide that feeling of fullness. Usually I end up eating something like grilled chicken (no sauce), and a side a veggies. I nix the bread/ rice/ starch... and stick withe veggies.

Here is an example of the sites nutrition facts:

In today's society, most chain restaurants will have a nutrition guide online... check it out ahead of time, you will always be suprised where the most calories are!

You have to remember that those salads aren't side salads either - they're actual meals. Plus, I haven't been to Applebee's in a really long time, but I'm fairly certain their salad dressing is pretty high in calories. And, since it's a big salad, it's going to have a lot of salad dressing. Add it all together (the size and the amount of salad dressing) and you have a pretty hefty calorie intake.

I have been to a few restaurants like applebees, like Fridays, Chili's etc. when I am on the road and they all have these salads. The problem is, they put a TON of things in those salads (extra cheese, candied walnuts, etc.) and you're right... they LOAD the salad with dressing in order to cover the 3 heads of lettuce, but the dressing is the worst part... it's like getting a lean gound beef, and putting 6 slices of cheese on the burger. People get in way over their head, and the only way to get around it is to get the dressing on the side, but then your eating like a friggin' rabbit haha...
