Eating out- Dinner with peeps

I need your help folks!
I've been sticking to my diet for months now, losing weight and feeling great. BUT I've got a huge obstacle coming up! I'm going with my friends to Disney in Florida next week and we are signed up for the Dinning plan. This means two meals a day pre-paid of appetizer, main course, dessert... plus breakfast and snack credits... all at amazingly yummy and terrible-for-my-diet resteraunts.

I would love your tips about how you manage portion control when eating at resteraunts and in groups.

I went to Cuba last Christmas and it was buffet food 3 times a day all week including a Christmas dinner!

I decided I'd try everything (except sugary foods like cakes, etc) in moderation. For the first few days it was novel and amusing but I quickly became bored with so much choice and the food was okay but not great so I ended up eating basic salads and meats.

Although I ate the 3 meals a day there were more interesting things to do there and hanging out in the buffet was not as much fun as hanging out in the resort!

Florida is fabulous fun and there is a ridiculous number of things to do there so you and your friends will probably spend less time at the buffet than you think.

Have a great holiday!!

You can always do things like ask for sauces on the side or not at all. Also if you'll be eating at decent restaurants rather than fast food they should have healthy alternatives like meat and veggies.

Also remember just because it's paid for doesn't mean you have to eat it or eat all of it. You can always leave some on your plate, or forgo the dessert, or share your extra food with your friends.

Remember, fruit is dessert. Salads are you friend. Dressings on the side (and pick vinegrettes which tend to be the lower calorie ones). Don't eat empty calories, like rice or white bread. Ask for a protein and veggies and skip the mashed potatoes or fries.

Drink water, no soda or fruit juice.

Yes, it will be hard. And even if you follow all the above, you may still be eating more than what you normally do. If there is a gym, use it, if you can.

It's hard and yes, you will probably fall into temptation, but try to share it -- instead of eating a Mickey ice cream by yourself, share it with a friend!

Good luck.

Remember to get back on track immediately when you get back (don't forget some of that weight gain might be water retention which will go away a few days after you're back!).

Thanks!!!
I made it through the week.. almost unscathed.
I avoided ordering fried food, (for the first time ever) didn't finish everything on my plate, and skipped about half of the deserts.

I came out 3 pounds heavier.. but have managed to lose two of them in the first week back.

Get copies of the menus for one thing, that will help you form a battle plan and know what you're up against. Second, I would suggest that when the food comes cut out some of the portions if they look too big to you (which they probably will be.) Use your best judgement but allow yourself to splurge just a LITTLE. All work and no play, etc.
