Eating habits?

I was just curious. If there is a particular type of food that you just don't eat because you just don't have a "taste" for it (IE: for me, I don't eat salad because I just can't seem to get used to the taste of it). Would eating it more and more, cause your tastebuds and body to aquire a like for it? I mean, if I kept eating salads more and more, would I eventually get to where it actually did taste good to me? I only ask because I know that my eating habits are HORRIBLE right now and if I want to start a serious workout plan and get into good shape, I MUST start eating salads and eating better.

It will improve. A lot of the time people who have poor eating habits require more overwhelming tastes (high oil content, high sodium content, high sugar content) to fill their needs. That's because your taste buds have been de-sensitized to subtler flavors.

If you start eating healthier, drink a LOT more water, things that never used to be delicious to you before will begin to be. Hell, I just started liking green peppers and red peppers myself.

I think one of my problems stems from when I was a really little kid. My mom even says she thinks so. My father was the type of person that would force you to eat something (Literally shoving it down your throat if need be) if you said no. So growing up after he and my mom divorced, I always avoided eating vegetables as much as I could. I could tolerate green beans and peas, but things like carrots, tomato's, etc., I just find distasteful. I'm hoping that I'll be able to find a good salad dressing that will enable me to eat salads more. Also, I'm going to have grilled chicken, etc. put on them, so that I get some more flavors.

My Chem 101 teacher explained it like this. Animal cells (oil, fat, etc) are round. Plant cells (salad) are sort of square/rectangle. He says that it just feels better to have fatty foods in our mouths. Whereas chewing up leaves is daunting and not very soothing. This might explain why some people can't eat a salad without 1/2 cup of ranch dressing on top.

It's better to start eating veggies, even if you put fattening stuff on it at first, than to not try at all. You'll eventually accept those tastes and enjoy them. I am truely grossed out when I eat high fat or high sugar foods. It makes my stomach hurt. But it wasn't always that way for me. So to answer your question, yes, keep trying veggies, prepared all sorts of ways, and you'll dig them soon.
