Hey guys,

I'm new in this forum because I'm trying to lose weight. Currently I weight about 220lbs and I am about 6 feet tall.
I wouldn't say that I'm fat, but still I'm very uncomfortable with my weight.
I have tried a lot already, but nothing really worked so far. I've never been able to stay dedicated long enough.

Today I stumbled across a blog article called 'The Easiest and Healthiest Weight Loss Method Ever'. The blog is called 'nobullshitlife'. I've read that I'm not allowed to post any links, but I'm sure you can find it using google.

The title of the blog article is quite delusional I think, but the content kinda makes sense. It is nice and simple - easy to follow.
I like the way the article sets clearly defined rules.

I want to start today, but do you think that this would work?

Here's the article from said blog;

It is a provocative title, but it is also true: I am going to share a simple method with you, which guarantees weight loss. It is not only the easiest method I have found so far (and I’ve tried dozens of methods, believe me) but it is also the healthiest way possible to lose as much as you would like to.

Here it is:

1. Improve your diet

Do not drink anything but water
Eliminate all junk food and candy from your diet
Drastically reduce the amount of grains you eat
Start eating as many vegetables as you can
Don’t forget about protein. Eat about 1.5 gram of protein for every kg you weigh
Reduce your calories to about 500 kcal below your basal metabolism
2. Move more

Go for a 1-hour-walk every day. No strolling – you should cover 5 km every time
Don’t increase your calories due to the walking
3. Start working out

Pick a weight lifting plan and follow it. Free weights are way superior to machines, but body-weight training is good as well
I recommend Stronglifts 5×5 since it helps you build muscle and strength. Any other plan is alright too, as long as you stick to it.
The plan should have integrated Squats and Deadlifts in any form. Those are the two most powerful exercises you can perform
Don’t increase your calories due to the weight lifting either
You can build muscle despite the calorie deficit, as long as you think of your protein
What results can you expect?

Do not think in terms of weeks, this would be nothing but disappointing. This is not a “6 week program”. This is a program you want to implement for life!

Think in terms of years: If you look back one year, how much has happened? Not too much I suppose. One year is really not that long of an interval. Just imagine you would have started this one year ago.

If you follow this advise strictly, you will lose at least 30 kg per year.
All this while getting fitter and stronger.

As soon you have have achieved your target weight, increase your calorie intake. Maintain the quality of your food, but simply increase the quantity. Don’t eat like a pig – eat like a horse.

Here's the thing; there are not one single approach that is better or healthier for everybody. Different folks need different things. Some of that may be because of health conditions, but it can also be for preferences and / or habits of different people. Some people can work well with certain approaches while others can fail miserably doing the same.

When someone says something like this, it creates an all-or-nothing mindset. If folks take this to heart, they eventually end up developing a bad relationship with food. They moment they break one of these rules, they feel demotivated, drop of the program, go on crazy binges, etc.

None of that is necessary to lose fat. If you are somebody that want and can do all of that, that's great, more power to you, but for the rest of the people, it's not a good way to go about losing weight.

If you aren't comfortable with that, you are better suited looking for a plan that you are comfortable following. If folks are really motivated they can do something whether they like it or not, but if they weren't happy with it in the first place, that motivation is gonna fade away eventually. And that is the moment when folks completely blow their diets, etc.

You can't expect folks to keep doing something they dislike 24/7 for 365 days or more (In this case, this s supposed to be a lifestyle). Eventually they will stop doing it because they are relying on willpower alone.

How many people do you know or have seen that lose insane amounts of weight, just to gain it back eventually? THIS is what happens when they try to go on such 'programs' or have a bad mindset.

Saying 'This is a lifestyle' just doesn't cut it. Virtually EVERYONE who puts a diet online says it is a lifestyle. Atkins was supposed to be a lifestyle. Low carb was supposed to be a lifestyle. Paleo was supposed to be a lifestyle. Honestly, almost all the diets I've seen online were promoted as a
'lifestyle'. Saying that is completely meaningless. If anything it hurts even more to the folks who already have an all-or-nothing mindset.

I can't quite remember the numbers, but the percentage of people who have lost weight and kept it off for over 5 years is extremely low. Most gain back some, if not all (or even more) weight.

That's why whatever you decide to do needs to be something that adjust to your situation and you as a person. Otherwise it's not going to work.
Can you go on a specific diet or plan to lose some weight quickly? Absolutely. But in the end is YOU who will have to design a plan that fits YOUR needs if you want to keep that weight off.

There is not 'better' approach, because if it doesn't fit the specific person, it is meaningless. Adherence in the long term is going to be the most important factor. Keep that in mind.

I hope that answers your question. There are a lot of ways you can make a weight loss program work, you just have to be a bit creative. You can absolutely use that plan to drop some weight, but don't think of it as a lifestyle. In the end, you should design your own plan that allows you to maintain your weight.

Good luck.

Hello AthalaRanger and thank you for that detailed response.

You are perfectly right. People might be very different when it comes to restrictions. I personally am better off with clearly set rules like "don't drink soft drinks" than with advice like "drink soft drinks only occasionally.
I will try this program out, even though I won't be that extreme regarding the diet. I like the occasional junk food but I think I can quit the soft drinks and candy.
I really like the daily walking approach and I wanted to start working out anyway.
If I'm doing only half the progress this article promises, I would be perfectly happy with it :)
I'm following this 'nobullshitlife' blog and see what other articles this guy is going to publish. I'm kinda curious.
Update will follow if I make any progress.

I totally agree with AthalaRanger. There isn't a one size fits all program for weight loss, weight management and healthier living. Some people have tried other ways and it worked so they share it. What matters is most is what works for you. And that's the difficulty in finding something that works for you.

I suggest trying out this weightloss method if you're up for it. But being consistent also helps tremendously too. That's where I see and hear a lot of people fail, even myself, is with consistency.

Same here, I agree with AthalaRanger. Also being consistent, being focused on your goal, perseverance and the determination are the secrets to every success in all aspect. I also have my own version to add which rely solely on my experience.

Below are not home exercises but my tips on how to speed up metabolism and lose body fat fast! But, first let me tell you that it really includes eating in moderation, cardio and weight lifting exercises.

1. Run - start with a 30 minutes run then gradually increase the pace.

2. When you do cardio exercises, make it as fast as you can. The more your heart rate speeds up the greater your metabolism rate go fast.

3. Avoid consecutive days of rest. Make it just a day of rest then go back to your exercises again. Do 3-4 days then take a rest day then go back again to workout 3-4 days. Also, do weight lifting in the morning and cardio in the afternoon. But be reminded that if you do one move after another (weight lifting followed by cardio) without pausing, you'll see more gains.

4. Eating spicy foods like cayenne and pepper also helps in losing fats.

5. Lift your dumbbells slowly. Because the more muscle you build the more you achieve a mega metabolism boost!

6. Get into sports.

7. Stay in shape. Fit people have more fat-burning metabolites in their blood than couch potatoes do.

8. Have a cup of green tea, 3 times a day!

9. Get a good night sleep of at least 6-8 hours.

7. If possible, DO NOT DRINK.

8. Eat a smaller dinner. There's a saying to eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a peasant and eat dinner like a beggar.

9. Do a 10 minutes workout, minutes after you woke up, before you get yourself some coffee.

See, we didn't even get to 10! That's a few. But will definitely boost metabolism to get rid of those fats.... RIGHT. AWAY. Please let me know when you have read this and what you think about it? Hope it helps.
