eased off the diet and started lifting...got a new problem now

so i've lost 40 pounds between january and may by diet and exercise. while i was losing the bulk of the weight i was eating roughly 2000 calories a day and going to the gym religiously every other day doing a little cardio but mostly resistance work.

about 8 weeks ago i eased up on my diet a little bit and started doing a lot more lifting and a little less cardio, but i work outside all day mowing grass for work so that more than covers what i stopped doing at the gym.

my lowest weight, maby 5 weeks ago, was 201...this was just as i eased up on my diet a little bit.

the thing is, i got down to a weight where i was pretty happy with the way i looked and i decided i wanted to build a little bit of muscle. based on what i've read on here you cant build muscle in a caloric deficit so thats why i started eating a little more.

once i ate a little more i noticed a lot more muscle growth, and i maintained 204 steady pounds, until i started drinking protein shakes.

in the last 4 weeks i've gone from weighing 204 to weighing 210, all while drinking 4 or so shakes spread out through the day.

since i've started with the protein i've noticed an even bigger amount of muscle showing up...but i'm starting to worry that it may be making me gain fat.

my question is, i want to grow the most muscle possible, without putting on too much fat...is this even possible? im not really looking for help with diet plans, i already know whats healthy, i'm just looking to find out how much (calories) i should be eating in a day to get the most benefit.

i'm 20, 210 pounds and i'm 6'1'' tall...very physically active and gym every other day.

thanks for any advice
