Dumbells only

It takes forever for me to get around to a workout. A friend gave me a little Joe Weider bench and a set of hex dumbells when he moved back east. It sat in one room for months, I moved it into my spacious master bed/bath and for the last three months I use it 2 or 3 times per week. I do bicep, tricep, shoulder and chest excercises.

My biceps are getting really big and my shoulders defined. Triceps are finally coming along. Chest, well that will take awhile (manboobs!).

My concern is that from what I read, most of what I do are "isolation" excercises and that is not supposed to be good. I like the results. Soon I will need bigger dumbells. When I get around to that, I think I'll get a barbell set instead.

Your responses are appreciated

You're situation is pretty similar to mine. I have ONLY a set of 30 lb dumbells, which is actually quite ideal for me (I weigh 140-145 lb). I do curls, military press, bent over rows, and flys. I finish with crunches which don't require dumbells. I do these five exercises in a row, three times. Is that good?

Only difference is that you seem to have a larger variety of dumbells and I'm trying to increase my pecs. ;)

Isolation is okay if compounds comprise a majority of your workouts. You're lacking back and leg work, you should incorporate this into your movements. You might also go ahead and look into investing in some extra weights, even if it is dbs.
