Drinking more water helps with weight loss. It helps our liver flush out toxins from the body. It also burns more calories, thus aiding in weight loss. Our liver can be stressed with too many toxins if they are not flushed out properly. properly hydrated. Without enough water, our liver cannot work efficiently.
 
True.

If you're not drinking enough water, then your liver will become stressed and it can devote less effort to converting fat to energy.

Plus, a lot of people actually mistake the feeling of thirst for hunger and end up eating a bunch of extra calories when a glass of water would do the job (without any of the calories).

Without enough water, you will die.

Is there any science behind these statements regarding liver toxins? Can you provide a reference to support?

Is there benefit to drinking more water needed than for normal hydration?

None at all. The myth is rumoured to have been started by bottled water companies and most experts I've read have said that drinking only when thirsty is more than enough and people who live in temperate climates probably don't need to drink anything and can gain all fluids from food.
 
One of my books says that after exercise you should drink more than you feel like, since thirst doesn't cover it. I don't have the book here, though (on vacation) so I can't provide any reference.
 
After exercise you'll be dehydrated so need to drink but the drop in electrolytes in your system makes you vulnerable to excessive fluid intake which can kill. I know it sounds a bit extreme but it's actually quite common. A London Marathon runner did it a year or two ago and I read about an idiot that died after taking part in a water drinking competition. If you're depleted of electrolytes then your body will continue to tell you that you're thirsty even when your red blood cells are close to bursting

It's called Exercise Associated Hyponatremia and kills fairly high numbers of amature endurance athletes every year who think that they need to rehydrate constantly and don't add enough salt to their drinks.

I think it's also common with clubbers taking stuff like MDMA who sweat heavily and get so focused on not becoming dehydrated that they drink themselves to death
 
Through experience and education I've learned that staying hydrated isn't that complicated. Like others have said above, drink water when your thirsty, that will do the daily trick.

On day's when your hitting a workout hard; make sure you drink a pint or so about 2 hours before your workout. That way you'll have to pee an hour or so before to help flush out stuff you don't need and you'll be sufficiently hydrated at the beginning of your workout. During your workout make sure to drink periodically, but not necessarily after each set or exercise. Try setting your workouts into rounds and hydrate in between rounds (intensity/ volume will dictate how often you drink)

One key, is to not sip the water during a workout. Most just sippy sip because they worry about stomach cramping and discomfort. Truth is though that if you're feeling that discomfort then you either already are or are on your way to dehydration-ville.

So why not just sip consistantly throughout the workout? Well, your stomach won't empty until there is enough of something inside to trip the trigger. Somewhere between 4-8oz at a time should be enough to get the job done. When your stomach empties that much fluid, your body knows exactly what to do with it.

Think of it like this. If you're driving your whip on "E", and you stop every mile and dump a splash of fuel in the tank. It is not very efficient and you won't get very far.
