Does face cream encourage spots? Or milk for that matter

Before I go onto topic at hand, I haven't posted for a good while. Sorry about that! I am busy with other things. Hope your all getting on well. Anyway... showtime :p

I have this cream:

And was wondering some things...

Firstly. I am 15 and am blessed with having few spots.
However recently around my chin I have been getting more and more spotty. A few days ago it was fairly bad, so I started exfoliating again with a cloth and drinking lots of water. Sure enough that has helped a lot. However now my skin is fairly dry so I am thinking about using my face cream. I have used it before but not for more than a few days, and although it seems to soften my skin a lot, I don't know if it is doing any good for my spots or not...

As this is not really my area of 'expertise' could somebody help me out please?

Also, I have been told milk gives you spots when you drink an excessive amount. However my source is no other than my friend, who although has no spots, does have pretty poor sources for info. So could somebody clear this up for me [no pun intended] - Does milk cause spots? Btw, I was drinking around 1-2 litres per day.

Lastly, could it be possible that an exfoliating cream i was temporarily using, which had some willow bark extracts in it, was in fact giving me spots?

Of course, it could just be the diet I have had in the past week or so, with half term etc, but I want to have a pretty much spotless face with smooth skin, like I know I could have. Anyone up for some advice on how to go about this?
I know PB knows his stuff, and so does Trevor, right?

I assume by spots, you mean acne.

Diet has very little to do with breakouts of acne, however there does seem to be a lot on the internet about the connection between dairy and acne. It's pretty normal for a guy you age to experience it on occasion. I'm 17, and female, and I've been pretty lucky and I've had a fairly nice complexion. But the places I get it the most are my chin and my forehead.

Yes, some moisturizers can clog pores and lead to acne. Another thing that could be happening is if you are putting on the moisturizer right after you shave, you could be irritating the area. The spots you speak of could be ingrown hairs aggravated by the moisturizer. If you are using a moisturizer make sure it says it's non-comedogenic. That means it won't clog you pores.

I'm not a guy, so I don't have to deal with the complication of shaving my face, fortunately. But, I just treat my acne with over the counter benzoyl peroxide cream. It seems to work. Salicylic acid is another acne fighting chemical that is found in some acne cleansers. However, it may dry out your skin if you use it on a regular basis.

Lastly, breakouts of acne are commonly associated with hormones. High levels of testosterone, the levels you reach in puberty, trigger acne. Most people will get it in their teens and it will go away once they reach adulthood.

Th most important thing though, or what has worked for me, is to avoid touching your face or picking at the spots. This just causes the bacteria to spread and will make it worse. The oils on your fingers will also get in to your pores if you touch your face too much.

I hope this was helpful, good luck.

Mmm, that is very helpful actually. Thanks!
But my problems more with zits. not acne. It's spots with white heads in them. However one or two maybe acne. I'm not too sure, my mum doesn't seem to think it is.

Well, zits/whiteheads are acne. It's caused by a bacterial infection in the pores. Your white blood cells rush to the area to fight off the bacteria and you're left with a mass of white blood cells and other junk which results in a whitehead.

Like I said, they could also be ingrown hairs. Same idea, except the irritation is caused by a damaged hair follicle that gets infected.

Edit:

Oh I should also mention, the moisturizer has a sunscreen in it. You could be allergic to the sunscreen. If it has avobenzone in it, it could be causing this. Check the label. I'm very allergic to the new sunscreens with avobenzone. I break out in hives that look like acne. I can't use any of the chemical sunscreens out there. I have to use that good old titanium dioxide sunblock.

Thanks a lot.

So to clear this up, should I think about avoiding milk? I mean, will it have any effect on my skin?

Thanks.
