Does exercise have a lasting impact on calories burned

According to this article, it doesn't translate to the body becoming a fat-burning machine. Rather, you burn extra calories during the process of exercising, but not to the extent that additional calories will continue to be burned for the 24 hours thereafter, as many believe.

I'm kind of dumbfounded. First of all, research studies often contradict each other. Secondly, it seems that one result is that fit people are more active in their daily lives overall. Finally, while it addresses interval training, it does not HIIT.

Any thoughts?

I don't know about this one, i mean it's just ONE study. It's old news that a bad diet can completely undo a good workout, we all know that. But i find it hard to believe that being on the same diet, you will not lose more weight exercising (that is what they're saying isn't it?).

Exercise helps increase your metabolism. Especially weights training which increase your body's muscle mass. Increased muscle mass means your body does burn fats even whilst resting in your chair, well more so if you had a decreased mass of muscle.

no its saying the calories burned during training will help you lose weight but the caloreis burned after training due to increased metabolism or EPOC is going to be minimal at best, lyle macdonald has been saying this for years about SS versus HIIT etc,i posted can in the article section about it,basicly its cals in versus cals out thats it.

as the article points out the increase in metabolism due to muscle mass is minimal, you would have to gain massive amounts of muscle in oreder for it to give a large increase.
