Do you burn more calories by being in the heat?

I work for the postal service in Arizona. I spend 6 hours a day in a hot truck with no A/C. (Yeah its a little rough, But i've gotten pretty used to it.)

Does working in these conditions cause additional calorie burning?
if so... Is there a way to figure out how much?
Anyone have any links to studies or something?

I'm sure there are some studies someplace. I don't know of any off the top of my head.

Your body does burn more energy in extreme environments given its desire for homeostasis.

And you aren't going to be able to factor it. It's negligible to say the least... why would you want to calculate it?

More curiosity than anything. I tend to be a very analytical person. In addition, it might help with the mind tricks i some times have to use when it gets to be 113 outside, and the huge truck feels like an oven, and the temp is actually hotter in there than out in the blazing sun. :)

Plus I'm not too far off from having to calculate a surplus for mass gaining :) But that realistically probably wont happen till after the summer is over.

I would think that it's pretty much the same as sitting in a sauna. You sweat and get rid of water and a relatively small amount of toxins, but that's pretty much it.

No, your body does kick caloric expenditure up a notch. But the keyword here is notch.

Actually the warmer you get the less calories your body burns. Your body sweats to cool down and your calorie burns slows down to a very low level.
If you were very cold your hairs would act to trap warm air around your body and your calorie burn would be at a higher level.

If your on a diet and drink water, then drink it as cold as you can. Water is extreemly low on water and when you drink it ice cold your body burns calories to heat it up inside your body. Kind of drinking yourself thin.

Yes and No.

When you have a fever your BMR goes up by like 50% because your heart rate increases, and when your body temperature is low your heart rate slows down, so your metabolism slows down.

HOWEVER, the guy only WORKS in the heat, so his actual body temperature will not go up.
